HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colorado — An armed private security guard who was assigned to the Highlands Ranch Colorado STEM school campus may have mistakenly fired at Douglas County deputies responding to the scene and injured a student, according to ABC News.A top law enforcement official told ABC News that detectives are trying to determine if a round from the security officer’s firearm struck and wounded an innocent student. HOUSTON, Texas -- Only 536 people in the world know what it is like to be blasted from Earth and launched into space. NASA astronaut Stan Love is one of them. Love went into space for the first time in 2008, with NASA’s STS-122 mission. “It was an amazing experience,” said Love, “[of] driving out to the launch pad, strapping into the gigantic steaming hissing spaceship and having the countdown and then all the shaking and thrust of launch coming up into space and the engine shuts off and you are floating weightlessness.” Love grew up in Oregon and as a kid, with mountains all around him, he enjoyed exploring wonders on the Earth. At night though, he’d look to the sky and wondered about exploring space. So, getting there in 2009 was a dream come true, but it also inspired a bigger dream. He wanted to help more people get to space. “I look forward to a world where more people can have the experience of flying in space, and maybe a little more time to enjoy looking out the window and seeing the Earth, seeing the start,” said Love. For the past decade, he has focused on making space exploration possible for more people. “I’m working on the cockpit displays and controls and controls sticks the computer displays and the switches on the Orion spacecraft which is going to fly Artemis missions, “ Love added. The Artemis mission, expected to launch next year, will mark a big moment in space history: a moment where NASA plans on handing over travel to Earth’s lower orbit to the commercial industry. “We are to the point where American industry, not just American government, can handle that,” Love said. “There are a bunch of companies that want to start flying tourists on little suborbital hops.” Those suborbital hops are around 0,000, but as a lower-Earth orbit economy develops, those prices are expected to reduce drastically. In addition, allowing industry to focus on lower Earth’s orbit will allow NASA to focus on Artemis’ true goal of getting back to the moon, and preparing it for a possible long-term human presence. “That’s sort of the next logical step,” Love explains. “We think that in deep craters of the moon’s south pole, there is a lot of water ice and other materials that we can use to help start building a lunar economy based on the moon.”The possibilities from there are truly endless. He credits vaping. Peltier says he had a few health complications before giving up smoking, but he says now his doctors are proud of his health. “Cardiologists and all of that stuff has told me that my health has gotten a lot better compared to me smoking”, he told WFTX. Gregory and Connie Haywood were married on paper for nearly 10 years. He says they had a complicated marriage and no longer lived together but he says they always kept in touch. Governor Bill Haslam has granted executive clemency to Cyntoia Brown by commuting her life sentence. The governor's office announced the decision Monday morning. She will be released to parole supervision on August 7, 2019, after serving 15 years in prison.Watch live: Brown's attorneys speak after Governor Haslam grants clemency“This decision comes after careful consideration of what is a tragic and complex case,” Haslam said. “Cyntoia Brown committed, by her own admission, a horrific crime at the age of 16. Yet, imposing a life sentence on a juvenile that would require her to serve at least 51 years before even being eligible for parole consideration is too harsh, especially in light of the extraordinary steps Ms. Brown has taken to rebuild her life. Transformation should be accompanied by hope. So, I am commuting Ms. Brown’s sentence, subject to certain conditions.”As part of her parole, she cannot violate any state or federal laws and will be subject to a release plan approved by the Tennessee Department of Correction and special supervision conditions, including employment, education, counseling, and community engagement requirements. Brown's parole supervision will continue until August 7, 2029, at which point her sentence will expire. In 2006, she was convicted of first-degree murder, felony murder and aggravated robbery in the killing of Antioch realtor Johnny Allen. She was sentenced to life in prison. At the time of the crime, she was 16-years-old.Advocates have said that Brown, now 30, was a victim of sex trafficking and shot the 43-year-old in self-defense.
