COPENHAGEN, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Thursday that the Copenhagen climate talks have reached the decisive moment and all parties should focus on consensus in a future-oriented manner and seek common grounds while shelving differences so as to bring hope to the world people.     Wen made the remarks when he met British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama on the sidelines of the UN-led talks being held here.     Wen said many developed countries have tabled quantified emission reduction targets while some developing countries have also set up voluntary goals in curbing emissions, which represents new progress in international cooperation in tackling climate change. BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's foreign trade in 2009 dropped 13.9 percent from a year earlier to 2.21 trillion U.S. dollars and its trade surplus last year slid 34.2 percent year on year to 196.1 billion U.S. dollars, according to figures released Sunday by the General Administration of Customs (GAC).     In breakdown, China's exports in 2009 stood at 1.2 trillion U.S. dollars, down 16 percent from in 2008, and imports reached 1.01 trillion U.S. dollars, down 11.2 percent from a year earlier, said the GAC.     In December 2009, monthly trade amounted to 243 billion U.S. dollars, which represented a year-on-year increase of 32.7 percent and a month-to-month rise of 16.7 percent.     Last month, China's exports were worth 130.7 billion U.S. dollars, up 17.7 percent from a year earlier. December's imports hit record monthly high to reach 112.3 billion U.S. dollars, up 55.9 percent from the same period of 2008, according to the GAC.

BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Premium of China's insurance companies hit 1.02 trillion yuan (149.6 billion U.S. dollars) in the first 11 months of this year, up 11.65 percent from a year earlier, according to the China Insurance Regulatory Commission Thursday.     The year would be the first year that China's insurance premiums exceeded 1 trillion yuan, data from the commission showed.     From January to November, premium of property insurance rose 22.28 percent year on year to 264.02 billion yuan, and that of life insurance was 757.66 billion yuan, an annual increase of 8.37percent.     The commission said the country's insurance firms were expected to eye combined profits at 46.09 billion yuan in the first 11 months, an increase of 57.45 billion yuan over the same period of last year.     Profits of the country's insurers nationwide was about 26.1 billion yuan in the first half, up 98 percent, the commission said in July.

DATONG, Shanxi, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Monday called for renovating the hovels in urban areas and at state-owned factories and mines across the country to better the livelihood of needy people.     Renovation of all squatter homes in cities and at state-owned factories and mines should be completed in the next fives years. Those hovels at state-owned forest zones, reclamation areas and coal mines will be renovated within three years, Li told a national meeting.     Different kinds of government funds will be used in the renovation work, and private investment will be encouraged, Li said, adding that favorable tax and land policies will be implemented.     He said the renovation efforts should be open and transparent and respect the wishes of the broad masses. Efforts should be made to avoid corruption.     Li said China will promote the building of low-rent houses to meet people's basic needs for housing.     By the end of 2008, China has 11.48 million families living in hovels, 7.44 million of which live in cities, 2.38 million nearby state-owned plants and mines, 1.66 million in forest zones and reclamation areas.
