OTAY MOUNTAIN (CNS) - A small brush fire that broke out on Otay Mountain was set as a signal by a man who was hurt after entering the United States illegally, an official said Saturday.Border Patrol agents interviewed a 25-year-old Mexican citizen who said he started the fire after he hurt his ankle and was left behind by a larger group he had crossed the border with, according to U.S. Border Patrol Agent Eduardo Olmos.A Cal Fire battalion chief said the blaze was set as a signal fire.The fire was reported on the mountain, which is east of Otay Mesa and just north of the U.S.-Mexico border, around 11:30 a.m., Cal Fire Capt. Issac Sanchez said.It was stopped at about a third of an acre, Sanchez said.Cal Fire took custody of the man and took him to a hospital, according to Sanchez and Olmos.Border Patrol agents will take custody of the man at the hospital and begin the process of deporting the man to Mexico, Olmos said. 939

Over the course of three months, a robber decided to test his luck not once but three times at the M Resort in Las Vegas.On Aug. 24, Gregory Bolusan reportedly entered the M Resort at 3:54 a.m. with a handgun and a backpack. He demanded that the cage employee hand over all of their money but was unsuccessful due to the employee fleeing the cage.Bolusan returned to the M Resort on Sept. 10 at 5:33 a.m. with the intentions robbing the casino cage again. This time he made away with ,589. Investigators were able to identify him because he wore the same clothing, drove the same vehicle and used a similar gun and backpack.In his final attempt, Bolusan returned to the M Resort on Oct. 28 and was able to use the same game plan to make away with ,480 – or so he thought.Bolusan was wearing different clothes during this robbery attempt but was driving the exact same vehicle, parked in the exact same spot, and entered the exact same doors as before. This led to M Resort security members apprehending Bolusan before he could get away with the cash.During the arrest, it was determined that he was driving a white 2010 Toyota Camry and that his gun was not real.Bolusan was booked into the Henderson Detention Center on several counts of attempted robbery, burglary. 1286

Patrick Quinn, a co-founder of the popular Ice Bucket Challenge, died at the age of 37.The ALS Association announced the news on social media Sunday.Quinn was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) shortly after his 30th birthday, according to the association. Since his diagnosis, Quinn raised awareness for the disease, co-creating the widely popular Ice Bucket Challenge.ALS posted the following message of Quinn following his passing:"We are deeply sorry to share that Pat Quinn passed away today. Police in Osceola County, Florida said a man was locked up after he was accused of trying to kill sex offenders.Officers said he tried to set the men on fire.Jorge Porto-Sierra has been formally charged with four counts of attempted premeditated murder.Osceola County detectives said the 50-year-old confessed to deputies he tried to kill multiple people at the Friendly Village Inn on Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway.After his March 7 arrest, Porto-Sierra said he arrived at the motel to "barbecue all the child molesters on fire and kill them."WESH 2 News in Orlando confirmed at least two of the four victims are convicted sexual offenders.Witnesses told deputies Porto-Sierra made several threats, screaming, "I'm going to kill you, child molester," and allegedly began throwing gasoline on their front door.Porto-Sierra is accused of breaking a hotel window to pour gasoline inside.Witnesses said he was carrying a cigarette the whole time.Another couple said Porto-Sierra rammed their car and poured gas on it.When asked by deputies why he did not carry out his threats, Porto-Sierra said, "You got here too soon."Porto-Sierra remains behind bars at the Osceola County Jail.He's being held on no bond.  1219

PARKER, Colo. – The Douglas County (Colorado) Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an infant that occurred at an unlicensed daycare facility in Parker.The infant was pronounced deceased Wednesday at Sky Ridge Medical Center.“We do have an open death investigation of an infant at 14166 Lexington drive in Parker. The status of the daycare facility is something that we will be looking at during the investigation,” read a statement from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.Madlynn Ruble with the Colorado Department of Human Services said the state was aware of an unlicensed and illegal childcare service being operated out of the home after a complaint was filed.The department served a cease and desist order to Amanda Anderson, who is alleged to have been running the daycare service. It’s unclear if any charges were filed.In the complaint, police noted that there were 16 children in the home at the time of incident -- most of the children were toddlers.The coroner’s office has legally identified the infant and an autopsy has been completed.
