A lost Purple Heart award returned home on Wednesday. Tucson Police say one of their officers recovered a Purple Heart award from a local pawn store several months ago. But with the help of Purple Heart Reunited, they were able to track down the owner of the award and his family.The award belongs to Colonel Leon Elie Lyon. TPD held a ceremony today to return the Purple Heart to the family. Officer Jim Caccavale from TPD presented the Purple Heart to the recipient's grandson, Glen Lyon. There was also a representative from Purple Hearts Reunited. Lyon entered active duty on May 8, 1917 during World War I as an Engineer Officer. He graduated from Tulane University with a degree in science in 1894. After one month serving in WWI, he was promoted to Major and 13 days after that, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. During his service in France, Lyon was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He survived the war and was honorably discharged on Oct. 15th, 1919. He entered service again less than a year later and served until the early 1940's, making the rank of Colonel in 1942.Colonel Lyon married Emily Cornelia Knapp Lyon in 1907. She died young in 1938. The couple had one child, Oliver Day Lyon. Oliver served as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force and saw service in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Colonel Leon E. Lyon passed away on Dec. 9, 1943. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.  1452

A man allegedly cut through a fence to escape a coronavirus isolation facility Friday in New Zealand. Officials say the man, only described as being in his 50s, apparently went to a liquor store before returning on his own to the facility.The man is now in police custody and is expected to appear in court, according to a statement from New Zealand Air Commodore Darryn Webb, Head of Managed Isolation and Quarantine.He said investigators believe the man cut through fence ties to break out of the facility around 6:30 p.m. Thursday night, then returned about 30 minutes later. Authorities are checking CCTV footage to confirm the man’s movements during that time. It happened in the town of Hamilton, on the North Island of New Zealand.It appears the man visited a liquor store. Police have talked to the store, and no one entered it this morning until health officials confirmed it was safe to do so.“Managed isolation is a critical part in our defence against COVID-19, and it is up to each and every person entering this country to play their part and abide by the law,” Webb said.The man who escaped arrived from Sydney on July 1, and their first coronavirus test came back negative, according to Webb. However, he still must remain in isolation. Webb believes the health risk from this incident is very low.“We take any breach of the COVID-19 rules very seriously. Wilfully leaving our facilities will not be tolerated, and the appropriate action will be taken,” Webb said.This comes just two days after another man escaped from a separate isolation facility in Auckland. This man, age 32, has tested positive for coronavirus. He was reportedly outside smoking a cigarette when he left the facility and visited a supermarket before returning.After that incident, Webb said fencing at all isolation facilities will be replaced with 6-foot-high fences.Travelers are being asked to isolate for at least 14 days in New Zealand, some must go to isolation facilities. 1976

A man says he's sorry for causing a commotion in a Baltimore theater last week by yelling "Heil Hitler! Heil Trump!" during a performance of "Fiddler on the Roof.""I opened my mouth and it was so wrong. I know that now," the man told CNN affiliate WBAL. "I don't know what I was thinking. I'm so ashamed."The man, identified in a police incident report as Anthony M. Derlunas, 58, told WBAL and the Sun that he's actually anti-Trump and anti-hate.He told the Sun that the musical reminded him of Trump's immigration policies. His comparison "came out wrong" and was "beyond a mistake," he told the newspaper.The outburst comes at a time of a dramatic spike in anti-Semitic incidents in the United States and follows last month's Pittsburgh synagogue shooting in which a gunman killed 11 worshippers."Fiddler on the Roof" is an award-winning musical based on the "Tevye" stories by Sholem Aleichem, about a Jewish family facing persecution in Tsarist Russia.The incident happened Wednesday night about 10 minutes into the first intermission at Baltimore's Hippodrome Theatre, audience members told CNN.The final scene before intermission reminded the man of his hatred for Trump, according to a police report of the incident, and he then stood up to yell "Heil Hitler! Heil Trump!"Rich Scherr, a contributor for The Baltimore Sun, witnessed the man, who was seated in the upper balcony, shouting the pro-Nazi salute."Several people in the audience began running toward the exits," Scherr told CNN. "I personally thought I was about to hear gunshots."Scherr, who later posted a video from the incident on Facebook and Twitter, said the man went on to shout other things before security took him out. A Florida man was allegedly attacked while trying to do the right thing during Hurricane Irma.The alleged victim was letting Tarvice Lamar Payne stay at his home in Port St. Lucie during the storm when his guest attacked him, according to Port St. Lucie police.Payne, 33, of Royal Palm Beach, accused the alleged victim of stealing his drugs, so he punched him and then threatened him with an ax, a police report states. The alleged victim managed to escape and call the police, but not before Payne took the ax and struck a car in the driveway, police said.Arriving officers managed to track Payne down as he was leaving the area.They charged him with aggravated assault, battery, and criminal mischief. 742
