BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's just concluded Eurasian visit has promoted ties and traditional friendship between China and five European and Asian countries.Wen paid official visits to Greece, Belgium, Italy and Turkey and an unscheduled visit to Germany, and attended the 8th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and the 13th China-European Union (EU) summit on Oct. 2-9.During the eight-day tour, Wen attended over 70 events, which covered global challenges, bilateral ties, hot topics and cooperative programs in the forms of lectures, talks, meetings, symposiums and tours.The visit, despite its tight schedule, had rich contents, and was another presentation of China's spectacular diplomatic moves.
BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor, Jia Qinglin, Tuesday called for greater efforts to develop the economies of ethnic minority areas.Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remark at the closing ceremony of a seminar on ethnic minorities work for provincial- and ministerial-level officials in Beijing Tuesday.Ethnic minority issues are important and the Communist Party of China (CPC) must properly handle them while governing the country, said Jia, who is also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.He said officials must unswervingly implement CPC Central Committee policies concerning ethnic minority issues.He urged officials to improve the livelihood of ethnic minority groups and promote unity among China's different ethnic groups.In properly handling ethnic minority issues, the key is to strengthen the Party's leadership and enhance the abilities of officials at all levels, he said.Vice Premier Hui Liangyu also attended the closing ceremony.
TOKYO, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Visiting China's special representative on Korean Peninsula affairs Wu Dawei said Tuesday that Beijing plans to put forward fresh measures to resume the stalled six-party talks at an early date.Wu made the comment to reporters after meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada, but he did not elaborate on what measures China will propose to bring Pyongyang back to the negotiation, which have been suspended since December 2009.Wu, who chairs the six-party talks involving Democratic People' s Republic of Korea and South Korea, China, Japan, Russia and the United States, said China needs to discuss the proposal with these member states and wants to hear their views about it.The Chinese envoy held talks with Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku after meeting with Okada.The Japanese side agreed with China that the stability and peace of the Korean Peninsula are in the interest of all parties concerned, and vowed to continue push forward the six-party talks. Both sides said they will work to restart the stalled negotiation as soon as possible.Wu arrived in Tokyo on Saturday for a four-day visit to Japan after visiting Pyongyang and Seoul.
