OWENTON, Ky. -- A McDonald's worker who handled food while infected with hepatitis A might have spread the illness to customers, according to a news release from the Three Rivers District Health Department in Kentucky. The announcement arrived less than a week after a similar one from Clermont County, where a Taco Bell worker was diagnosed with the virus."While it is relatively uncommon for restaurant patrons to become infected with hepatitis A due to an infected food handler, anyone who consumed food or drink at the Owenton McDonald's (between Aug. 16-27) is advised to get a hepatitis A vaccination," district health officials wrote in a news release.The McDonald's in question is located at 506 South Main Street in Owenton, Kentucky.Officials added the McDonald's management was cooperating with their investigation, employees had been told to receive a vaccination and the entire staff reviewed standard hygiene practices to prevent transmission.Kentucky is in the midst of a statewide outbreak of hepatitis A, a liver infection that can remain asymptomatic for many weeks before causing fatigue, nausea, joint paint and low-grade fevers. People with existing health problems, especially older adults, can sometimes experience sudden liver shutdowns, according to Mayo Clinic. Hepatitis A is normally transmitted through small particles of feces that remain on an infected person's hands after using the restroom. If they prepare food or drink afterward, they can potentially infect large numbers of unsuspecting people. Effective hand-washing and vaccination reduce the risk of the infection spreading. 1632

A surge of COVID-19 cases last week in the nation’s most populous county led to a three-week end to outdoor dining and then a broader stay-home order that took effect Monday. Officials in the city famous for its Rose Parade said they chose more aggressive enforcement because Pasadena is smaller than other cities in the county and can more closely monitor its 600 restaurants. PINELLAS CO., FLA. — A Pinellas County couple is praising a Good Samaritan who returned 0,000 in jewelry after finding their luggage in the road."He's our Christmas Angel," Dr. Joe Fitzgerald said. "He not only found it. He also called 911 and made sure we got our jewelry back."Joe and his wife Elif Fitzgerald attended an annual Denim and Diamonds charity event for Hands Across the Bay Saturday night. That's why Elif Fitzgerald had expensive pieces of jewelry with her.The Fitzgeralds were one of the sponsors for the event, and they had a lot to pack up at the end of the night. Joe Fitzgerald says he put most of the luggage in the back of his trunk, including his wife's luggage, with the jewelry in it."On my way home the back hatch opened and the bag fell out near West Bay Dr. and Indian Rocks Rd." he said.The Fitzgeralds had no idea the bag was gone, "until I looked at my phone."Elif Fitzgerald said she had dozens of missed calls and text messages telling her someone found their bag and the jewelry in it."I was completely shocked that they returned it," she said. "I have valuable jewelry. PHOENIX, Arizona — It sounds like something out of a horror movie.A colorful beetle that may look harmless, but it secretes a toxin so strong, it can even kill a horse. When it comes into contact with human skin, however, the effect of this toxin can lead to extremely painful blisters.One emergency room doctor described it as a chemical burn.Dr. Joanna Woods can describe that intense pain firsthand."I went through an entire tissue box of tissues crying my eyes out. It felt, not like an itch; it's like I put my arm on a skillet and couldn't take it off. It's just excruciatingly painful," Woods said.Woods says she feels certain she encountered the blister beetle while watching a show at a movie theater."Midway through the movie I started saying, oh I'm starting to feel a little itchy, there must be mosquitoes in here," Woods said.Then she thought it might be bed bugs.  She saw red welts on her arm as she left the movie theater, within hours those welts were turning into big, marble-sized blisters.Welt went to the pharmacy to get medicine, the pharmacist on duty advised her to go to an Urgent Care, and the Urgent Care physician advised her to go to an emergency room.Even in the emergency room, Woods said staff appeared to be stumped by the size of these huge blisters all over her arm."I had nurses in there saying I've been doing this for 35 years, I've never seen his, what is it?"Woods was hospitalized for two days due to concerns over the swelling and treat of infection.KNXV television station reached out to Eric Godinez, the owner of Scorpion King Exterminating, who said he was familiar with the colorful blister beetle."There is a time of year that blister beetles migrate through the Valley, usually through farmlands that contain alfalfa and hay," Godinez said.They are also found in backyards, where they munch on flowers and leaves.Godinez said these beetles would only attack if provoked."If you brush them off or try to squash them, they secrete a toxin that is very lethal. It will stay released for about 2-3 months even after it's dead," Godinez said.He advised leaving it alone if you happen to encounter one in your backyard.Phoenix is home to the "Master Blister Beetle."The bug has wings, and Godinez said it was a short flyer.How it got into a movie theater, or on Woods' skin is still a mystery."I just wished it had never happened. It was excruciatingly painful," Woods said.She is now talking to management at the movie theater to get to the bottom of it.Woods does admit she does have severe reactions to most bug bites, so just like anything, different people can have different reactions if exposed to the toxin from his beetle, but doctors said it lives up to its name, the blister beetle. 2805
