BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Wednesday urged the country's senior officials to take the 60th anniversary of the founding of the New China as a new start for carrying on its modernization drive while maintain social stability.     Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when presiding over the 16th group study for the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, which was themed on understanding and practicing the socialist modernization since the founding of New China.     "Many important revelations come up if we look back on how the Party has led people on the path of socialist modernization," said Hu, stressing the importance of upholding economic development as the central task and promoting comprehensive and sustainable development.     Hu stressed the study of the principle of "freeing our mind, seeking truth from facts, be united and look ahead", which was put forward by late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping.     Hu said that policies regarding reform should be scientific and the methods of practicing these policies should be well-coordinated. Such reform policies should cover economy, politics, culture, society and all other aspects.     Hu emphasized on ensuring social stability while deepening reform.     "Without stability, nothing can be done and even those we have achieved will be lost. We should pay special attention to conflicts occurring among people and solve them properly," he said, adding that various issues that affect social stability should be coped with carefully to ensure people's livelihood.     Hu urged all study members to regard the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of China as a new starting point to deepen socialist modernization and made new achievements in building a well-off society.

It requires civil servants to do their work diligently with love for the people," said Premier Wen Jiabao at the awarding ceremony in Beijing.     Wen hoped all civil servants across the country would learn from the models, work industriously and fulfill their jobs in accordance with laws and government policies. BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- China will unremittingly pursue the path of peaceful development and its military will enhance cooperation with foreign armed forces in order to contribute to common development, said Defense Minister Liang Guanglie Friday"China will develop friendly cooperation with all the countries in line with the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence to make new contributions to building a harmonious world of lasting peace and common prosperity," said Liang at a reception at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to mark the 82nd anniversary of the establishment of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).     "Peace and development remain themes of the times, yet the world is not peaceful," said Liang, who is also a member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a state councilor.     China's military would enhance exchanges and deepen cooperation with foreign armed forces to fulfil its international obligations and responsibilities, said Liang.     Liang said "positive changes" in the situation across the Taiwan Straits had helped curb "Taiwan independence" forces, and the two sides have expanded and deepened exchanges and cooperation in fields of economy and culture, among others. MOSCOW, July 24 (Xinhua) -- A senior delegation led by Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng met with Russian officials on Friday and Saturday over the sudden closure of a market in Moscow.     On June 29, some 150 Chinese merchants and a large quantity of their goods were seized in a crackdown on smuggling at the Cherkizovsky Market, Moscow's biggest wholesale market.     The market was subsequently closed, causing heavy economic loss to the Chinese merchants who operate businesses there. No word has been given as to when the market will reopen.     Gao stressed the China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation during his consultations with Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Migration Service, Yuri Buriak, Deputy Economic Development Minister, Andrei Slepnyov, and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Borodavkin.     Gao also spoke of the recent state visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Russia, the upcoming regular China-Russia Prime Minister's meeting in Beijing in October, and celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.     He said under such circumstances, China and Russia should try to maintain their friendship and mutual trust, and properly handle problems arising from the development of bilateral ties.     Non-governmental trade between China and Russia has its complicated historical origins, Gao said, and the remarkable contributions of Chinese merchants to the economic prosperity of Russia, especially during difficult times, should be taken into consideration.     He said against the backdrop of the current global financial and economic crisis in particular, to deal with the abrupt shutdown of the Cherkizovsky market appropriately and scrupulously would be mutually beneficial to China and Russia.     China has no objections to Russia's crackdown on smuggling, he said, but Moscow should effectively protect the property and dignity of Chinese businessmen.     Russian officials from relevant ministries and departments all agreed that the market shutdown would not affect the long-time friendship between the two countries.     They also emphasized that the shutdown was aimed at smuggling and not against the Chinese merchants, who make up less than 40 percent of all the merchants there.     The Russian side also urged the Chinese merchants to comply with laws, and said the Moscow municipal government had started to help merchants move their goods.     Slepnyov said a collective work plan against "grey customs clearances" will soon be studied.     Gao, who arrived in Moscow on Wednesday, was accompanied by a delegation comprising of officials from the ministries of commerce and foreign affairs, the General Administration of Customs, and trade officials from Zhejiang and Fujian provinces.     The delegation has also held negotiations with the Investigation Committee of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Federal Customs Service and the Moscow municipal government.
