PHOENIX, United States, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Sunday praised the fast growing regional cooperation between China and the southwestern U.S. state of Arizona as he started his U.S. tour here.     Regional cooperation, as an important part of relations between nations, has served to enhance bilateral links, Wu said while meeting with Arizona Governor Jan Brewer Sunday evening.     "Recent years have witnessed rapid growth in the mutually beneficial cooperation and friendly exchanges between Arizona and China," said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress. BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday proposed closer cooperation among members of a regional security group to tackle the world economic recession.     "Confronted with the global financial crisis and aiming at a steady economic growth, member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) should work together and seek mutual benefit," Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang told a SCO business forum in Beijing.     The SCO was founded in 2001 to enhance security cooperation among its six member states, namely, China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Mongolia, India, Iran and Pakistan are observers to the regional group. BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Friday called for the whole nation to further promote the development of national defense with the help of the nation's economic development.     Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the remarks during a meeting held by CPC Central Committee Political Bureau ahead of the 82nd founding anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on Aug. 1.     Hu said "the country should take both economic and national defense development into consideration and develop the armed forces featuring an integration of the military and the people."     To realize the goal, efforts are needed in establishing sound weapon systems and equipment research and manufacturing, military personnel training and logistics that combine military construction with people's support, he said.     Emphasis should be made in scientific exchanges between fields of national defense and civilian use.     He further stressed it is the responsibility of both the Party and entire nation to build a powerful and solid armed force and national defense power.

BEIJING, Sept. 7 -- Automobile sales in China may accelerate 28 percent from a year ago to reach 12 million vehicles this year and overtake the number of autos sold in the United States, according to a regulatory official.    The remark was made by Chen Bin, chief director of the industry coordination department of the National Development and Reform Commission, at a conference in Tianjin on Saturday.     In contrast, General Motors Co and Ford Motor Co forecast sales in US will be about 10.5 million units this year, Bloomberg News said.     Auto sales in China in the first half reached 6.09 million units, a rise of 17.7 percent from a year ago, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.     The government's stimulus measures have boosted the auto industry and demand which is set to stay robust, Chen said. The measures included a 50 percent cut in the purchase tax to 5 percent on vehicles equipped with engines of less than 1.6 liters.

HARBIN, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's chief justice has urged people's courts around the country to make more efforts to maintain social harmony by improving the judges' ability to better resolve public grievance and resentment.     Wang Shengjun, President of the Supreme People's Court, made the remarks during his visit to northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on Sunday.     The people's courts at all levels should organize more professional trainings for the judges to improve their practical abilities required for better handling the people's discontent, Wang said.     The courts should encourage more young judges to work at grassroots positions in which they will encounter complaints and deal with group incidents in the front line, he said.     The people's courts around the country should also improve their working efficiency by adopting more equipment and infrastructure with information technologies, Wang said.
