SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A woman died Friday morning after she was hit by a vehicle while walking in a Mira Mesa crosswalk.The victim, who has yet to be identified, was crossing the 9200 block of Capricorn Way in a crosswalk at about 9:45 a.m. when she was hit by a vehicle, San Diego Police said. The woman, believed to be in her 40s, died at the scene.Police later found the driver, a 31-year-old man, and his vehicle, a black 2004 Nissan Titan. Police said the driver was making a right turn from Black Mountain Rd. onto Capricorn Wy. when he fatally struck the woman with his vehicle. SDPD did not say if any arrests have been made. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — About 90 dogs are heading across the country to San Diego to remove them from the path of Hurricane Delta in Louisiana.The dogs will land at Gillespie Field on Thursday as part of the effort to evacuate the animals before the storm hits the northern Gulf Coast, according to the San Diego Humane Society. Once they touch down in San Diego, 60 dogs will be taken to SDHS and the rest will be taken to Rancho Coastal Humane Society, the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility, the Department of Animal Services, and Labradors and Friends. Once the dogs are medically cleared and behaviorally assessed, they will be made available for adoption."We are grateful we can help these animals and alleviate some of the stress on the shelters in Louisiana," said SDHS President and CEO Dr. Gary Weitzman. "They are just recovering from Hurricane Laura and now there is an even bigger threat. When we all work together, we can help more animals and that’s what we are here for."The flight is made possible by the nonprofit Wings Of Rescue, which helps fly endangered pets from high intake or high-kill shelters to no-kill shelters.Last month, SDHS, RCHS, and Labrador and Friends took in 130 dogs and cats from Louisiana as well."An animal emergency is an animal emergency, no matter where or when it happens,” said Rancho Coastal Humane Society President Judi Sanzo. “Hurricane-ravaged Louisiana called for help — just weeks after the last airlift brought more than a hundred animals to San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego-area man and his grandmother filed a federal lawsuit against two San Diego County Sheriff's Deputies.The lawsuit alleges deputies responded to the wrong address and pulled a then-17-year-old out of his apartment. "I've never experienced something like that," said Cesar Jaramillo.Jaramillo says last October he was watching TV on the couch when he heard a knock at the door. He says deputies asked if someone from the residence called 911.According to his lawsuit, "Cesar informed defendants the call was not from his residence. When defendants asked Cesar if there was a young black female in the apartment, Cesar said 'No,' and informed defendants that they were at the wrong apartment building. Cesar knew who defendants were referencing and knew they lived in the other building. Cesar informed the deputies over half-a-dozen times that defendants were at the wrong building."Jaramillo tells 10News he complied with everything the deputies asked but felt like they didn't believe him."That's when I started closing the wide door, that's when he just reached in and grabbed my hand," Jaramillo said.The lawsuit claims, "Without warrant or probable cause, both defendants unreasonably lured Cesar to unlock and open the door, then entered into Plaintiff's residence and forcibly pulled Cesar by the forearms into submission, leaving instant bruises on both arms."Jaramillo's grandmother was in the back of the house at the time and said she woke up to the commotion."I saw my grandson laying on the ground, in handcuffs and I went crazy, and I said, what is happening," said Teodora Villalobos.According to the lawsuit, "Due to unreasonable seizure and force used on her grandson Cesar, as well as defendants' indifferent attitude, Teodora began having heart complications on scene."Jaramillo's lawsuit alleges negligence, battery, and unreasonable search and seizure, among other things.10News reached out to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department for comment, but a spokesperson they can't comment on pending litigation. 2066

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An eventual return to outdoor dining for some North Park restaurants may not be an option due to a City of San Diego project.Right now, some businesses on 30th Street have left their outdoor dining structures just as they were before the latest stay-at-home order. However, concerns have been raised as the city’s pipeline replacement project, which includes a bike lane expansion, moves into its final stages.In a virtual meeting, city officials presented a plan to the North Park Main Street Business board of directors, informing business owners of what will be required of them as part of this construction. This will include restriping the bike lanes in their section and putting signage up.Several area business owners, like David Gamboa, were not happy to hear the plans. Business owners believe the project will cost them their parklets and outdoor dining spaces.“Not only are businesses scratching for every penny they can right now. Now we’re going to ask them to take their staff, time, and take whatever little money they have and stripe the street themselves. It seems crazy to me. It’s a big ask,” Gamboa said.The business owners are asking the city to delay the striping of the bike lanes until businesses can fully reopen.Typically, the city would require businesses to hire an engineer who would design a traffic plan. 1363
