SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The unofficial start of summer is here in San Diego and that means it’s time to hit the beaches and enjoy some sunshine.Health officials are reminding residents that it’s also time to check the water quality before heading out.The County of San Diego’s Department of Environmental Health checks the water on a regular basis and posts that information online.Due to the need to warn residents if water quality is poor, the county developed the “Check Before You Get In” website.The site allows people to check water conditions at more than 80 local beaches. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This weekend is filled with events celebrating San Diego Pride, fun at the fairgrounds, and virtual events to keep locals busy at home.San Diego Pride's Spirit of Stone Wall Rally and Pride Live events will celebrate the region's LGBTQ community and leaders who have contributed to the community with awards, presentations, and entertainment during what would traditionally be the city's Pride weekend.The Natural History Museum is continuing its Friday night trivia events with a virtual rendition with the same flavor of the museum's rooftop event at home.And, of course, with beaches open, locals can safely soak in the rays on the sand, or head to the Del Mar Fairgrounds for a bite of fair food throughout the weekend.(As a reminder, residents are encouraged to stay home if they feel ill and avoid large gatherings with people not from the same household. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The woman accused of running over her neighbor during a domestic dispute in Chollas View pleaded not guilty Friday. San Diego Police said Tantrina Spencer-Simmons, 24, was beating her 8-year-old sister with a belt on the 200 block of 47th Street Wednesday. Spencer-Simmons’ 50-year-old neighbor, James Shank, tried to stop her but she put the girl in her SUV. 10News spoke to Shank's wife, Zena Salsbury at her home before the arraignment. She said the incident started when she witnessed her downstairs neighbor, Spencer-Simmons beating her little sister with a belt. As a double amputee, Salsbury could not go downstairs to stop it so she asked her husband to make sure the girl was safe. Salsbury said Spencer-Simmons hit Shank with her car and ran over him before driving away. RELATED: Police: Woman arrested after running over neighbor in Chollas ViewProsecutor, Brian Erickson said the entire incident was captured by MTS Trolley Station video cameras. "You can literally see as the victim is basically cast out from behind the car, the car lurches over and drives off," Erickson said. "She doesn't stop, doesn't hesitate, and literally takes off."Salsbury told 10News her husband now has a broken nose, shattered pelvis, punctured lung, and may need his arm amputated. He is still sedated, undergoing several more surgeries this week. Erickson said Spencer-Simmons turned herself in and was arrested on Market Street. Her bail was set at million. The latest Center for World University Rankings, published Monday, examined 20,000 universities around the world and focused on quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty and research performance. For the 2019-20 CWUR rankings, UC San Diego was listed in 7th among public U.S. universities. Among all U.S. universities, the La Jolla school ranked 21st.
