It's that feeling of leaving of money on the table. Like many of us, Donna Rosato, senior editor of the money team for Consumer Reports, has experienced it before.“I never even wore it. I knew right off the bat it was the wrong size but it took me too long to get the store, I was really upset,” Rosato said.To better educate consumers on different store’s return policies, 386

Independence Day fireworks bring joy to millions of Americans over the week of July 4. It is a holiday that Americans unite to celebrate their independence. But celebrating America's independence could cause trauma for those who have fought for America's independence. The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that between 11 and 20 percent of those who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars return home with PTSD. The V.A. said that 12 percent of Desert Storm veterans and 15 percent of Vietnam War vets also have PTSD. While a number of instance can trigger someone to have PTSD, the loud bangs that fireworks cause can be of particular concern for combat veterans. The V.A. says that PTSD can cause veterans to have upsetting memories, feel on edge, or have trouble sleeping. Since 2015, the non-profit group Military with PTSD has distributed yard signs informing neighbors that a veteran with PTSD lives nearby. The signs state "Combat Veteran Lives Here, Please Be Courteous with Fireworks."The signs are distributed nationwide, and can be ordered online. “Courteous to me means remembering that you are not the only one living in your neighborhood," said Jon Dykes, the veteran who made the first sign. "America celebrates our independence on the 4th of July. Not the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th of July. Some fireworks are expected, and that’s OK. I understand; but not 24 hours a day.”For more information on how to obtain a sign, click 1468

In a remarkable admission, German Cardinal Reinhard Marx said Saturday that documents that could have contained proof of clergy sexual abuse in the Catholic Church were destroyed or never drawn up."Files that could have documented the terrible deeds and named those responsible were destroyed or not even created," said Marx, the archbishop of Munich and president of the German Bishops' Conference."The stipulated procedures and processes for the prosecution offenses were deliberately not complied with," he added, "but instead canceled and overridden."Such standard practices will make it clear that it is not transparency which damages the church, but rather the acts of abuse committed, the lack of transparency, or the ensuing coverup."Marx's stunning admission came on the third day of a historic Vatican summit focused on combating clergy sexual abuse. The day's theme was transparency, which Marx said could help to tackle abuse of power.A member of Pope Francis' inner circle of advisers, Marx is one of the most powerful men in the Catholic Church. The four-day summit of 190 Catholic leaders, including 114 bishops from around the world, will conclude Sunday with an address by Pope Francis. On Thursday, at the beginning of the unprecedented summit, Francis urged the bishops to take "concrete measures" to combat the clergy abuse scandal. At a press conference later Saturday, Marx said that the information about destroying files came from a study commissioned by German bishops in 2014. The study was "scientific" and did not name the particular church leaders or dioceses in Germany that destroyed the files."The study indicates that some documents were manipulated or did not contain what they should have contained," Marx said. "The fact in itself cannot be denied."Marx said he doubts the destruction of files related to clergy sexual abuse was limited to one diocese."I assume Germany is not an isolated case."The report commissioned by the German bishops also revealed that "at least" 3,677 cases of child sex abuse by German clergy occurred between 1946 and 2014. 2096

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg revealed Tuesday that she traveled with retired Justice John Paul Stevens "in the last week of his life" to Lisbon, Portugal, for a conference where the two justices attended meetings, visited museums, vineyards and castles."Perhaps he knew at age 99, distant travel was a risk," Ginsburg said during Stevens' funeral at Arlington National Cemetery, "but he wanted to experience fully the joys of being alive, and he did just that almost to the end."Ginsburg, 86, said that as the "next eldest in attendance" she had the opportunity to ride with him on long drives and his mind "remained vibrant" and he spoke not only of court cases but footnotes in various opinions."His conversation was engaging, his memory amazing," she said. As they were leaving the US ambassador's residence during their last evening in Lisbon, Ginsburg told Stevens, "My dream is to remain on the court as long as you did."His immediate response, she said, was "Stay longer!"Justice Sonia Sotomayor also accompanied her colleagues on the trip which was hosted by New York University. The event was from July 8-12.Stevens died in Florida on the evening of July 16, according to a press release from the court, after suffering a stroke on July 15. The release did not say where Stevens was when he fell ill.Ginsburg talked about his approach to the law and his willingness to continue "learning on the job." She also mentioned that on the 30th anniversary of his appointment to the court, President Gerald Ford wrote a letter praising his nominee.A day after laying in repose at the Supreme Court, Stevens -- a World War II veteran -- was buried in a private ceremony. According to a court spokeswoman, there was a Navy casket team, a firing team and a bugler.Stevens served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945 and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service on a codebreaking team. The private service -- closed to the press -- was also attended by Stevens' former clerks. On Monday, 70 of them lined the stairs of the Supreme Court as the casket was carried to the Great Hall for a day of mourning. The clerks took turns standing vigil as visitors, including President Donald Trump, stopped by to pay their respects. At Tuesday's private funeral, David Barron, who served as a clerk during the 1995-96 term and is now a judge on the 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals, called his former boss "unassuming" but "supremely competent.""He believed fiercely in independence, in not going along with the crowd, in stating your own views no matter how distinctive, and in the capacity of the country to handle disagreement, even strong disagreement, and to learn from it, if respectfully offered and respectfully received," Barron said.Another eulogy was delivered by Stevens' granddaughter, Hannah Mullen, who said that he was the "great Justice, the great man" but that he was also "the greatest grandpa in the world.""He was the kind of grandpa who taught us how to catch lightning bugs," she said, adding that he used his anti-trust skills to try to "trounce" his grandson John in Monopoly. She spoke about his career, his big dissents and the opinions he wrote that no other justice joined."I hope like him, we remain graceful in victory and undaunted in defeat -- brave enough to dissent and, if no one will join us, brave enough to dissent alone," she said. 3374
