The comedy is a "The Prince and the Pauper" knockoff that isn't worthy of a single Barrymore performance, let alone two.While Barrymore shows off some range in exploring the two characters, the script doesn't provide enough material for either of them to stand out.She plays both fallen comedy star Candy Black and her meek stand-in, Paula. Once a judge sentences Candy to rehab, she and Paula work out a switcheroo deal that spares Candy the inconvenience of alcoholism recovery while giving Paula a break from her dreary life.You can usually tell whether or not a comedy has a shot at working in the first 15 minutes, when there are no concerns for setting up the story and the characters are free to romp without a care of advancing the tale. "The Stand-In" gets stuck in the mud early on, focusing on its bizarre setup. Candy comes off as an intolerable diva, while Paula is a helpless pushover. Neither is all that appealing.At least it's got Barrymore going for it. Bursting with personality while showing off the vulnerability that she's had full command of ever since she was a tyke in "E.T." she retains the star charisma that shot her up the ranks of the Hollywood elite. Since roles in the vein of "The Wedding Singer" and "Never Been Kissed" are no longer coming along, it's refreshing to see her reinvent herself as a Melissa McCarthy-style comedic force of nature.Director Jamie Babbit manages to squeeze a few laughs out of her capable ensemble cast, which includes Ellie Kemper and T.J. Miller, but the lazy story takes way too long to push forward, and any potential emotional impact falls by the wayside as the dull plot plods its way to its conclusion.The central message in most movies like this is that the grass isn't greener on the other side. PHOENIX - Believe it or not, a shelter pup was returned to the Arizona Animal Welfare League in Phoenix because he was too good.In a Monday Facebook post, AAWL said 1-year-old Binx was adopted and returned within 48 hours with notes saying he's potty-trained, good with kids and fun to play with. Turns out, Binx's temporary new family wanted more of a challenge from their adoptive pooch and returned him to AAWL.According to the shelter's Facebook page, Binx "can't get anything done at the shelter because everyone is petting me, telling me what a good boy I am, and taking me for walks!"Binx's profile on the AAWL?website says an active family would be ideal for the large-breed dog, who loves to run, hike, and do "anything that involves being outside."Anyone who wants more information on Binx can check him out here. 836

PEORIA, AZ - An Amber Alert for a 2-year-old girl abducted from Peoria Monday morning has been canceled after the girl was found safe several hours later. According to Peoria police, Khaleesi Morales was taken by her non-custodial father, 32-year-old Luis Jesus Morales, around 6 a.m. from a residence near Lake Pleasant and Beardsley roads.Luis is the defendant on an Order or Protection not to have contact with the girl or her mother. According to officials, Luis was arrested and booked into jail by Peoria police Sunday night after violating that Order of Protection, but was released at 5:14 a.m. on Monday.Police said Luis went to the child's Peoria home Monday morning, opened a window, broke the screen out, stepped on his young son's hand and assaulted the mother before taking Khaleesi. He reportedly stole the mother's vehicle and headed southbound on Lake Pleasant Road. Police say there were several box knives in the stolen vehicle. An Amber Alert was issued around 8 a.m. Monday for Khaleesi.Around 1 p.m., police said the Peoria SWAT team was able to locate the girl and Luis at a business near 99th Avenue and Beardsley Road, just a short distance from where the toddler was abducted. Khaleesi was "safe and unharmed" and was asking for her mother. Luis was taken into custody without incident.Khaleesi was reunited with her mother at the Peoria Police Department Monday afternoon. Luis is being charged with kidnapping, burglary, aggravated assault, violation of a court order and auto theft. Of the 25 complaints of potential polling place or Election Day concerns the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office received by noon ET on Tuesday, 21 were already resolved.In a press release, they said the vast majority of complaints were about alleged interference, like a polling place being partially blocked by construction or members of the press.The Philadelphia District Attorney responded on social media to a concern shared by Trump’s Election Day operations director.“Members of our Election Task Force have investigated this allegation. (KGTV) — Border Patrol says agents arrested two people on Thursday in separate incidents of methamphetamine smuggling.The first incident occurred when agents stopped a woman driving a 2006 Honda Accord at the Interstate 8 checkpoint in Pine Valley. The woman was referred to secondary inspection, where agents say a canine team discovered 64 packages of methamphetamine hidden in the vehicle’s quarter panels and gas tank. The drugs are worth an estimated street value of 6,175.The 22-year-old U.S. citizen and the narcotics were turned over to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.Several hours later, a 19-year-old U.S. citizen driving a 2005 Ford Mustang was stopped at the same checkpoint. He was referred to a secondary inspection where a canine team also discovered 39 packages of meth inside the vehicle’s gas tank, worth an estimated street value of ,250.The man and the drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.Once again our agents have intercepted these dangerous drugs before they could reach the streets, poisoning our community.
