RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Police say a man who was suspected of burglarizing a vehicle was fatally hit by another car as he fled the Southern California scene. The 35-year-old man allegedly stole property from a car in Riverside, California, around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The man's name has not been released. Authorities say the vehicle’s owner confronted the man, who ran away while discarding the items from the car. As he fled, the man tripped and fell into the path of a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. Police say the Outlander struck the man, who later died at a hospital. The Outlander’s driver was not injured and is cooperating with police. 648

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a longtime member of the United States Supreme Court, has died at the age of 87, the Supreme Court confirmed in a statement. Ginsburg has been a justice on the nation's highest court since being appointed by President Bill Clinton. She was just the second woman appointed to the United States Supreme Court. “Our Nation has lost a jurist of historic stature. We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague," Chief Justice John Roberts said. "Today we mourn, but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her -- a tireless and resolute champion of justice.”Ginsburg has been in and out of the hospital for the last several months as she battled metastatic pancreas cancer. Despite her multiple battles with cancers, Ginsburg remained active on the bench, and participated in a number of important rulings over the summer.Ginsburg died in her home surrounded by family, the Supreme Court said in a statement. Just yesterday, Ginsburg was honored by the National Constitution Center, receiving the Liberty Medal. President Donald Trump learned of her death from reporters after leaving a rally in Minnesota. (AP) -- A growing number of mayors across the country support giving cash to low-income families with no restrictions on how they can spend it.It's part of a movement to establish a guaranteed minimum income to combat poverty and systemic racism.Mayors in at least 25 cities have pledged to support the effort. RMH Franchise Holdings, a company that operates a number of Applebee's restaurants, announced this week that customers who used credit cards at some locations may have been subject to a data breach. "Upon learning of a potential incident, RMH promptly launched an investigation and obtained the help of leading cyber security forensics firms," the company said in a statement. "Based on the experts’ investigation, RMH believes that unauthorized software placed on the point-of-sale system at certain RMH-owned and -operated Applebee’s restaurants was designed to capture payment card information and may have affected a limited number of purchases made at those locations."The company said that customers’ names, credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates and card verification codes were subject to the breach. Customers who used Applebee's tabletop payment system, or its online ordering system were not subject to the breach.RMH said that customers should closely monitor their payment card statements, and check for any unauthorized transactions. If customers notice any unauthorized transactions, they should contact their bank.RMH said that it learned of the incident on February 13, and has since contacted law enforcement. "RMH is continuing to closely monitor its systems and review its security measures to help prevent something like this from happening again," the company said. The company did not say why it waited three weeks before notifying the public. Many of the affected transactions took place from December 6 through January 2.
