Like most people, I trusted my accountant to file my taxes accurately and I was shocked to find out that my 2017 returns were not properly filed. My accountant has taken responsibility for the errors. But I, too, take responsibility and I’ve filed a corrected return and paid the back taxes," Gómez said in a statement.Currently, Gómez is facing off with fellow Democrat Sara Jacobs for California's 53rd District in Congress this November.The Gómez campaign team has been sending out emails pushing for Jacobs to release her returns.A spokesperson for Jacobs told ABC 10News, "The Gómez campaign spent weeks misleading voters and crying wolf about Sara's tax returns, only to have the real story be their candidate's own negligence. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- As the ballot count continues, there’s been an explosion of rumors and misinformation on social media about the integrity of the process.Fact checkers have their hands full with false claims like #Sharpiegate.In this one, people in Arizona’s Maricopa County claimed election workers were up to no good by forcing them to mark ballots with Sharpies, those ballots would be invalid.#Sharpiegate was re-tweeted more than 300,000 times in just a few hours, according to the Election Integrity Project.However, Maricopa County Election officials say Sharpies are absolutely OK.In San Diego County, the Registrar of Voters Office says using a Sharpie will not invalidate a ballot. Even if ink bleeds through, it will not affect ovals on the other side, officials said.John Silva with the News Literacy Project says some of the rumors can be traced to regional differences. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Border officials say they seized more than .1 million in narcotics in two days at ports of entry in San Diego and Imperial Valley counties.Monday, a 45-year-old Mexican citizen driving a commercial bus was stopped at the San Ysidro port of entry and underwent a secondary screening. A K9 officer detected narcotics in the vehicle's gas tank.Officers found 229 pounds of cocaine, 23 pounds of fentanyl, and more than six pounds of heroin in the gas tank. In a second incident, on Tuesday, agents stopped a 23-year-old U.S. citizen at the Calexico East port of entry and referred them to a secondary screening. The port's imaging system screened the vehicle and noticed an anomoly in the back seat. A K9 officer also made a positive detection.Officers discovered 73 wrapped packages of methamphetamine hidden in the back seat, firewall, glove box, and inside vehicle panels.Later that same day, at the Calexico West port of entry, a 35-year-old Mexican citizen was found to be smuggling narcotics in the same manner.Imaging and a K9 officer detected narcotics, leading officers to find 50 wrapped packaged of methamphetamine inside vehicle panels.CBP officials seized all of the narcotics, valued together at more than .1 million.“Seizing these 400 plus pounds of narcotics is not only about keeping drugs out of our communities,” said Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations for CBP in San Diego. “It’s also about keeping millions of dollars in profits away from transnational criminal organizations, and preventing the ensuing crime and chaos they cause on both sides of the border." 1617

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As the elderly population is told to stay home to protect themselves from coronavirus, a group like ElderHelp is necessary. ElderHelp has been helping seniors with anything from giving rides to grocery shopping for decades. Now, they have adapted to COVID-19 restrictions, with a system where volunteers pick up groceries from the nonprofit's hub, then drive the food and supplies to the seniors’ homes to deliver without contact.ElderHelp has seen a 773% increase in requests for service since the pandemic began and now completes 522 deliveries on average every week.Carol Greene is one of the seniors who has food delivered to her San Diego home and said the communication with the staff brightens her days.“I look at ElderHelp as all the sunshine. You might be at home on your normal, boring day at times and whoop there’s the phone,” she said.They just received a 0,000 grant from the San Diego Foundation but say they are still always in need of both donations and volunteers, especially in light of the recent increase in demand.Nicole Darling has been volunteering with ElderHelp since 2003 and said the seniors appreciate the food, but always seem to enjoy the interaction as well, especially during a time of isolation.“It’s a small amount of effort to make a huge amount of good for people who are really vulnerable and alone,” said Darling. 1382

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities have identified the sailor who died after being struck by a spinning helicopter blade as 32-year-old Lt. James Mazzuchelli.Mazzuchelli was a flight surgeon assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 267, Marine Aircraft Group 39 and was stationed at MCAS Camp Pendleton.Mazzuchelli is from Orange Park, Florida and was previously deployed to Japan.RELATED: Sailor hit by spinning helicopter blade at MCAS Camp Pendleton dies“Lt.
