SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 79-year-old woman struck while crossing a Mira Mesa intersection is expected to recover from her injuries, San Diego Police said Monday. The woman was walking north in the crosswalk of Mira Mesa Boulevard and Black Mountain Road about 5 a.m. when she was struck by a male driver, police said. Officers reported the woman suffered a fractured pelvis, open fracture to the right tibia, and head injuries. She was taken to the hospital. The crash shattered the driver’s windshield. He was not hurt. Traffic backed up for several hours during the morning commute for the investigation. Police have not yet determined who was at fault. 659

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A developer is going back to the drawing board after a downtown agency blasted its affordable housing proposal Wednesday. Pinnacle planned to build a 58-unit low-income apartment complex at the corner of 11th and B. It would be attached to a 32-story market rate residential tower. While the buildings would be attached, they would have separate doors, no interior connections, and few shared amenities.Civic San Diego's board of directors rebuked the developer Wednesday. "You want to put us somewhere else," board member Robert Robinson said. "Are we not good enough to get on the top floor and look out at the ocean? That's what the message is here."David Dick, an attorney representing Pinnacle, said that was a misrepresentation of the intent. "It has to do with the realities of construction, cost financing, management and ownership," he said. Dick added that Pinnacle should be lauded for its willingness to fund much-needed affordable housing downtown, as opposed to paying an in-lieu fee that could take years to yield any units. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two additional suspects were arrested today in connection with a shooting that left a 20-year old man mortally wounded in a Bay Terraces-area neighborhood 16 months ago.Ethan Leland Apan, 28, and Kevin Herrera, 26, were jailed this afternoon on suspicion of taking part in the slaying of Joaquin Ruiz of San Diego, according to police.Another suspect, 26-year-old John Orozco, was taken into custody last Wednesday on suspicion of murder in the case, Lt. Andra Brown said Shortly after midnight on July 13, 2019, patrol officers responding to a report of a possible traffic accident found Ruiz unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body in a vehicle alongside the roadway in the 7000 block of Paradise Valley Road.Paramedics took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not disclosed what led investigators to identify Apan, Herrera and Orozco as suspects in the case and have revealed no suspected motive for the slaying.``The District Attorney's Office is currently reviewing this case, which is still an ongoing investigation,'' Brown said. ``We will not be making any further comments or providing additional information at this time.'' 1216

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Father’s Day boat trip off the San Diego coast led to a rare wakeboarding encounter with dozens of dolphins for a Pacific Beach boy and his family. “It was a quick little boat ride and we saw paradise up there,” said Emiliano Gallego of Crown Point. Gallego and his three children decided to take a boat ride about 7:30 a.m. on a gloomy Sunday. They were about a mile off Pacific Beach when they realized their 24-foot Yamaha ski boat was surrounded by dolphins. “It was impressive,” said Gallego, who believes there were thousands of dolphins swimming with the pod. Gallego’s 9-year-old son Demi, an avid wakeboarder, grabbed his gear and jumped in the water. Gallego recorded the incredible scene. “At first, he was scared. He eventually just started enjoying the ride with the dolphins,” Gallego said. Gallego’s younger son and daughter didn’t want to jump in. “Too many dolphins,” said Gallego. After the spectacular ride, the family went out to breakfast, amazed at what they saw. “That was the best gift ever,” said Gallego. 1059
