Allstate Insurance announced on Wednesday that they are planning to lay off 3,800 employees.In a press release, the company said the layoffs were part of a restructuring plan to lower costs.Allstate will make the cuts in the sales, claims, and support departments."Implementing this plan is difficult as we still deal with the impact of the pandemic but necessary to provide customers the best value," said Tom Wilson, Chair, President, and CEO of Allstate in the press release. A years-long battle between the Cornwall-Lebanon, Pennsylvania School District and social studies teacher Luke "Todd" Scipioni finally came to an end this week when a court ruled that Scipioni can return to work, the Lebanon Daily News reported. School officials learned in 2014 that Scipioni had sex with a female student on her graduation night in 2004. The allegations surfaced during Scipioni's divorce proceedings, the Daily News reported. The Daily News reported that Scipioni and the student developed a relationship during the 2003-04 school year, but it did not turn sexual until student's graduation. The relationship ceased when she went off to college at the end of the summer. The district then fired Scipioni in October 2014 when it confirmed the relationship between Scipioni and the student. Scipioni then challenged the district in court, with an arbitrator’s ruling that Scipioni was not forthcoming in the details of the relationship, and that he should be suspended for one year, but not banned from teaching. This week, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that Scipioni should not have been punished beyond the suspension, and is entitled to return to his job.Scipioni is reportedly interested in returning to work for the district after he and the district settle on back pay. A district spokesperson said that while it disagrees with the ruling, it will abide by the justices' ruling. 1546

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron Police Department is investigating a viral video that shows officers using a Taser on a man and punching him while he was on the ground during an arrest.The video, captured by a neighbor, shows one officer punching the man multiple times.Warning: The video below includes images and language that some users may find disturbing.Akron police said they saw the man, who they identified as 47-year-old Patrick King, coming out of a known drug house Sunday. They made an investigative stop while he was walking down the street.King gave false information about his identity, an Akron police official said. An officer tried to detain him and got a handcuff on one of his hands. King then resisted by trying to run away, pulling away, tensing up and refusing all verbal commands, the official said.A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, captured the incident on video and posted it to Facebook – it’s since been shared over 3,000 times and viewed over 147,000 times.The neighbor felt the officers went too far."As soon as they put the one handcuff on him, that's when they got to throwing him around and slamming him and beating on him and stuff like that," he said.Akron police said they arrested King and charged him with tampering with evidence, resisting arrest, misrepresenting identity, drug paraphernalia and drug abuse. King also had an active warrant out of Cuyahoga County for a parole violation.Akron police said they have begun a use of force investigation into this incident.
