Schroeder is declaring a state of emergency for the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) as they wait for Attorney General Daniel Cameron's decision whether or not to indict the officers in the Breonna Taylor case.The department has canceled all off days and vacation requests until further notice."The public may also see barriers being staged around downtown, which is another part of our preparations," Sgt. Lamont Washington said in the statement. "It is important to note that the AG has no timetable for the announcement."Taylor, a 26-year-old emergency medical worker, was killed by Louisville police serving a "no-knock" narcotics search warrant at her apartment. They found no drugs in her home. The city announced a settlement with the Taylor family last week that included a million payment and changes to department policies.An officer was shot during the raid by Taylor's boyfriend, who has said he thought he was defending against a home invasion. LYON, France (AP) — French police say a Greek Orthodox priest has been shot while closing his church in the city of Lyon, and authorities are hunting for the assailant. A police official says the priest was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit in the abdomen on Saturday. The official says the priest is a Greek citizen and the attacker was alone and fired from a hunting rifle. On Twitter, the French Interior Ministry wrote "an event is underway near the Jean-Macé sector, in the 7th arrondissement in Lyon. Security and rescue forces are there. MEXICO CITY (KGTV) — Authorities Friday say at least two people have been killed at an elementary school in northern Mexico after a student opened fire on his teacher and classmates.Coahuila state Gov. Miguel Angel Riquelme said an 11-year-old sixth-grade student at Colegio Cervantes in Torreon, Coahuila, is the suspected gunman, the Associated Press reported. The student reportedly asked his teacher to use the bathroom and later returned to class with two firearms. Riquelme said the student killed his teacher and himself, and wounded five other students and a gym teacher at the private school. The AP reported that the unnamed student told a classmate, "today is the day" before leaving the class.The student is not believed to have shown any behavioral problems in the past, but investigators were looking into his online activity, according to Riquelme.
