SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are asking the pubic for help identifying a group of suspects they say assaulted a male outside a Pacific Beach restaurant this month.Police said the victim got into an argument with a group of men outside Backyard Bar and Grill on Garnet Ave. on April 1, at about 1:30 a.m. During the argument, one of the suspects punched the victim in the face three times.After the victim walked across the street to get away from the group, the suspects followed him and repeatedly punched and kicked him while he was on the ground, police added.The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with major head and facial injuries. He underwent reconstructive surgery of his face due to the severity of his injuries, police say.The group of men fled before police arrived on scene.Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call San Diego Police at 858-552-1700 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 933

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County announced Wednesday if the county continues to hit state triggers with the spread of the coronavirus, museums, zoos and aquariums could be on the long list of closures Monday.The measures apply to any indoor activities.Balboa Park just reopened the Air and Space Museum two weeks ago, after everything closed down in March due to the pandemic."We want to make sure people come back to the park, it is the cultural heart of San Diego," Executive Director of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership Peter Comiskey said.Comiskey said this weekend more of our favorite museums are set to open. Friday the Science Center, the Veterans Museum, the Natural History Museum and the International Gift Shop are set to reopen, with three more museums opening Saturday July 4.The possibility those openings could be short-lived is something Comiskey says they're ready for."We're certainly hoping all the people of San Diego County are really able to pull together and make sure the infection rate and the case load and all these lovely metrics, these important metrics can be contained and can be controlled," he said hopefully.Comiskey said if they have to close Monday after putting so many precautions and time in to ensure the park is safe, they will.Looking to the future, he said they're brainstorming how to bring in money to help these cherished icons survive."I think as time goes on we need to look at what fund-raising is possible, I think we need to look with those organizations that rely on revenue through the gate." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego Police are investigating a reported scam that seems to be targeting the elderly.Frank Dabalack says someone knocked on his door Monday at noon, claiming they could fix a dent on the back of his car for 5.  “I’ve wanted it fixed for a long time and here’s a guy who came over, it looked like he knew what he was doing,” Dabalack said.But once he agreed and the man and his crew began work the price kept jumping to nearly 0.“I was angry with myself,” Dabalack said, “because I knew it was scam, and I’d been scammed.”He found out with the help of his neighbor, who he asked to come over.  She took a closer look at the men’s repair work. She says they were damaging the car instead of fixing it. They covered the back of the car with some gooey residue but never touched the dent.  One of the men also took pliers to the grill and started bending it out of shape.When she started asking them questions, they took off. Dabalack says he wrote them a check for 5 but was able to cancel it with his bank.Martinez said when police arrived, they said they were familiar with the scam. The men look for handicapped plates on cars in driveways and try to trick the owners into paying large amounts of money.“Frank is from a generation where people kept their word, not scammed the elderly,” Martinez said. “Frank is like a dad to me. I don’t like anyone doing that to him or any senior.”  1445

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County is seeing far fewer influenza cases at this point in the flu season compared to last year, due in part to coronavirus-related safety measures, according to public health officials.So far this season, the county has recorded 39 influenza cases, compared to 1,220 cases at this point last season. Flu season generally runs from October through May, with flu activity peaking in December and February.The county says it's "very likely" physical distancing, hand washing, and mask-wearing are contributing to the low flu activity."Influenza activity remains very low to date this season in San Diego County. This is very likely due to the social distancing, hand washing, and mask-wearing interventions instituted to reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19," the county's influenza report said. Health officials say influenza vaccination rates are also contributing to the lower numbers. So far this season, 1,043,552 San Diegans have been vaccinated for the flu. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego City Council members approved Tuesday a new state of emergency resolution linked to sewage in the Tijuana River Valley. District Eight Councilmember Vivian Moreno, whose region includes the Tijuana River Valley, authored the resolution. Moreno cited significant amounts of plastic, tires and sediment flowing from Mexico into the United States. “This has been going on for far too long and South Bay is not a dumping ground,” Moreno said. “To solve this international crisis, we must stop pointing fingers. This is a regional issue that calls for a regional solution.” The crisis, which was first recognized with a resolution in 1993, has since worsened, council members agreed. The City of San Diego’s new resolution was designed to raise awareness about the public health impact. “District Eight residents frequently experience a foul smell, and people who have been exposed to the toxic waste have reported skin rashes, headaches and respiratory issues,” said Moreno. “The sewage, sediment and trash occurring in the Tijuana River Valley is an environmental crisis and we’re going to keep fighting until it’s fixed once and for all,” said Mayor Kevin Faulconer. “We’ve seen some positive movement recently after decades of advocating as a region to our leaders in Washington and Mexico City. They’ve identified the problem and the projects needed to fix it, and now we must push for them to take action.” 1444
