The Trump campaign has officially requested a recount in two Wisconsin counties, just one day after all 72 counties had reported they finished their canvassing.President Donald Trump and his campaign had a deadline of 5 p.m. Wednesday to demand a recount in the state. The Wisconsin Election Commission (WEC) said the request could be delivered to the commission in person or filed electronically, as long as it was received by 5 p.m.On Wednesday, the Trump campaign ordered a recount in both Milwaukee and Dane Counties — two of the most populous and Democratic-leaning counties in the state. The WEC added that the campaign wired million Tuesday evening. The fees for a recount vary based on where the president would like a recount. The whole state is much more expensive than a county by county recount. The news of the recount comes after The Associated Press projected Joe Biden as the winner in Wisconsin. Biden leads Trump statewide by about 0.3%, or 20,000 votes. This story was originally published by Julia Marshall on WTMJ in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 1065

The U.S. Geological Survey is monitoring the recent eruption of the Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii and has made photos and videos of it available to the public.Small cracks began appearing on May 1 following a powerful earthquake, and Kilauea erupted May 4, sending lava onto surrounding roadways. The USGC said on Sunday night, May 6, the volcano's summit lava lake had dropped significantly, and was roughly 220 meters below the crater rim.An overnight video from the main affected neighborhood, Leilani Estates, shows lava erupting from a fissure and advancing north. The lava flow continued to advance several hours after the fissure eruption diminished, the USGS said. In another video (attached to this article), a lava flow can be seen moving on Makamae Street in the Leilani Estates around 9:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, May 6.By Sunday night, at least 10 fissures had opened, and 26 homes had been destroyed, CNN reports. The active venting of lava and hazardous fumes was ongoing. As of Monday morning, the USGS still had a current volcano alert level of "warning" in effect, and the code color is orange."Residents should remain informed and heed Hawaii County Civil Defense closures, warnings, and messages," the USGS website states. Alerts may be found here.Kilauea last erupted in 1983. 1327

The US House of Representatives will vote on whether to legalize marijuana across the country in September. This would be the first time a chamber of Congress has ever voted on removing marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act.Cannabis was included as what is called a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act in 1970. Schedule I drugs are defined as having a high potential for abuse and no medical benefit. Other Schedule I drugs include heroin, LSD, ecstasy and peyote. On Friday, representatives were informed the MORE Act will come up for a vote in the September work period of the House. The MORE Act - Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act - will expunge some cannabis records and create grant opportunities for people who have been negatively impacted by the criminalization of marijuana in addition to removing it from its Schedule I classification, according to Politico.Marijuana is already legal in 11 states, despite the federal designation as a Schedule I drug.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is opposed to the act, and some say the odds of it passing the senate are very slim.Even if the MORE Act passes both chambers of Congress, it would not make sales of marijuana legal. Regulation of marijuana would be left to states to decide how to handle it. 1310

The US has reported more deaths from the coronavirus on Wednesday than in any other single day during the pandemic, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.According to Johns Hopkins’ figures, local health officials reported 3,157 deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday, shattering the previous record of 2,607 set in April. The marker comes as CDC Director Robert Redfield warned on Wednesday that the US could see an additional 180,000 coronavirus-related deaths between today and the end of January — an average of at least 3,000 a day.Meanwhile, coronavirus hospitalizations in the US topped 100,000 on Wednesday according to the COVID Tracking Project, a mark that is well above the spring and summer surges of the coronavirus. Nearly 13% of all US hospital beds are being used by coronavirus patients, placing the nation’s health care system in a precarious situation.Despite population increases since the 1970s, the number of hospital beds in America has steadily declined, according to CDC figures.Wednesday's figures would likely not include infections that occurred during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend as coronavirus infections can take weeks to cause hospitalizations. Public health experts are fearful that despite some states implementing shutdowns of businesses, that holiday travel will cause an additional spike in coronavirus cases.According to Johns Hopkins, the U.S. has recorded at least 100,000 new COVID-19 cases each day since Nov. 3. 1472

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning about several hand sanitizer products that have been found to contain wood alcohol, which can potentially be deadly to ingest or on the skin. The FDA said the products from EskBiochem SA de CV in Mexico contain methanol, also known as wood alcohol, which can be deadly when absorbed through the skin or ingested. Substantial methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death."Methanol is not an acceptable ingredient for hand sanitizers and should not be used due to its toxic effects," the FDA wrote in their statement. While anyone who puts methanol on their hands is at risk, officials say young children who accidentally ingest these products and adolescents and adults who drink these products as an alcohol (ethanol) substitute, are most at risk for methanol poisoning. On June 17, the FDA contacted Eskbiochem to recommend they remove its hand sanitizer products from the market. However, to date, the company has not taken action to remove the products from the market and the FDA is urging people to stop using them, and dispose of them properly. 1231
