(AP) — Two boys were fatally shot while sitting in a van outside an elementary school early Saturday morning, police said.The shootings of the boys, ages 11 and 14, took place in the parking lot of Searles Elementary School, the East Bay Times reported.Callers to 911 reported hearing gunfire at 1:26 a.m., the newspaper said. Authorities said that when officers arrived, they found the boys.The older boy died at the scene, and the younger child died en route to a trauma center, the Times reported.New Haven Unified School District Superintendent John Thompson said in a statement that the victims were minors.The boys attended schools in the district, Thompson and a district spokesman said.No arrests have been made in connection with the killings.Police Lt. Steve Mendez said there was no sign of a connection between the shooting and the school where it took place. People occasionally gather in the relatively secluded parking lot, Mendez told the Times.Thompson said the school district “will have support for our students and staff at the sites where these students attended when school resumes after the Thanksgiving break.”The district also will work with the Union City Police Department “to ensure that our schools are as safe as they can be,” he said.Police are investigating the possibility that an earlier shooting may be related to the slayings, the Times reported. (KGTV) -- A woman died early Sunday morning after her vehicle rolled over on a North County road before being struck by several other drivers suspected of driving under the influence.According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes of SR-78 near Mar Vista Drive.CHP says the 33-year-old woman from Oceanside was driving her Toyota Carolla when she veered off the road onto a dirt shoulder. When the woman tried to regain control of the vehicle she hit the center divider wall, leaving the vehicle disabled.RELATED: Pregnant mom who fell asleep at the wheel crashes into Vista building, causing gas leakAfter the crash, a 54-year-old man from San Marcos struck the Corolla, ejecting the woman from her car. The 33-year-old driver of the Corolla died at the scene, CHP said, and the 54-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. According to officers, after the second crash, a 38-year-old man also from San Marcos crashed into both of the vehicles previously involved in the crash. The driver and two passengers were taken to the hospital.The drivers of the vehicles involved in the second and third crashes are both suspected of driving under the influence.The District Attorney’s office also responded to the scene after being requested by officers to aid in the investigation.SR-78 west is currently closed. (KGTV) — San Diego deputies on Sunday asked the public for help finding a missing 72-year-old at-risk woman.San Diego Sheriff's Department says Lorraine Craw disappeared from her home near Sohail Street in Lakeside on Sunday. She suffers from dementia and doesn't have a purse or identification on her. She will not know who she is, the department added.Craw is described as a white female, 5' tall, weighing 160 pounds, and with grey hair. TULSA, Okla. — An Oklahoma woman has faced terrifying health scares over the last year from a tick bite. Nancy Phelps' tongue and face have swollen up many times. She has also spent countless hours in the hospital because she could not breathe. She learned it is all because she was bit by a Lonestar Tick while she was playing with her grandkids in her yard in the spring of 2017."They fall off trees," Phelps said. "They're out in the grass." She started seeing symptoms lke rashes and having stomach problems early on. Phelps thought it was random.Then in the fall, she started going into anaphylactic shock, meaning she could not breathe because of an allergic reaction. "Within about a week time, I was in the emergency room with anaphylaxis eight different times," Phelps said. Several doctors later, Phelps learned that tick bite gave her the Alpha Gal Allergy. It causes an allergic reaction to all mammal-based products."They could feed on an infected animal, get a parasite that then when they feed on a human that human could be infected," said Luisa Krug, the epidemiology supervisor for the Tulsa County Health Department. The CDC said this week that diseases caused by infected ticks, fleas and mosquitoes have tripled in the last 13 years. More than 640,000 cases have been reported. When Phelps consumes mammal bi-products or is around them, she has a severe allergic reaction. Her face and tongue start swelling up. She said she has to inject herself with an Epi-Pen once every one to two weeks. "Anything boxed, in cans, anything you would typically buy off the shelf," Phelps listed what she cannot eat. "Pizza...I didn't realize I liked pizza so much, but those kinds of things are non-existent anymore."Her allergy is so bad that she even has to worry about cross-contamination. Phelp said she bought all new pots for her home. Eating out is nearly impossible now. She has to show restaurants a document she keeps on her phone that lists what she can and cannot consume. Phelps can no longer take gel cap pills, because they are made with animal bi-products. Make up, toiletries, laundry and dishwashing soaps and certain clothing are also a problem.Phelps wants others to take note of her story and take serious precautions. "It's avoidance and being aware of our surroundings," Phelps said.The health department suggests wearing long sleeves and pants outside to avoid being bitten by bugs. They also suggest using a bug spray with deet in it.  2570
