SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego International Auto Show announced Wednesday that its 2020 lineup was cancelled.The show was set to take place from December 31 through January 3.“After careful and extensive consideration of the health risks and other factors resulting from COVID-19, the New Car Dealers Association San Diego County will be unable to hold and unfortunately must cancel the San Diego International Auto Show,” the New Car Dealers Association of San Diego County said.The next event is scheduled to take place from December 30, 2021 through January 2, 2022.“As much as we wanted to move forward with the show for all of those who eagerly anticipate it each year, the outbreak of COVID-19 and the pandemic has resulted in a situation where we are unable to hold the show. Of course, the health and safety of all of the workers, exhibitors and attendees who make the auto show such a special event are of vital importance,” said Dean Mansfield, president of the New Car Dealers Association San Diego County, which owns and produces the San Diego International Auto Show. “And given the incredible amount of planning exhibitors must do long in advance of an event of this size and the expenses incurred by all parties, we have endeavored to provide notice of cancellation as soon as reasonably possible,” continued Mansfield. 1346

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- There are increasing calls for more police oversight. In San Diego, a proposed measure would create a new independent body to investigate alleged misconduct. Both San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and District Attorney Summer Stephan have pledged support for a new body to hold police accountable.Maresa Talbert with San Diegans for Justice said they welcome the support, but there is still some skepticism.“It seems very reactionary after all of this pressure that now they come out and support. This ballot measure is not a new thing. This has been proposed since 2012,” Talbert said.There is currently a Citizens Review Board on Police Practices, but Talbert said it is far from independent. “Their legal council is the city attorney, who represents both the Police Officers Association and the CRB so it represents a true conflict of interest,” Talbert said. The new proposed commission would have the ability to investigate cases. It would also have independent lawyers and subpoena power. The head of the San Diego POA said the support a measure on the ballot to let the people decide what is best for police oversight. “I think if people go into things with an investigative mind trying to find the truth, I think that any of these things can be very effective,” said POA President Jack Schaeffer. Talbert said even if passed, the city council still has to write an ordinance and some of the language could change. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Tunnel Task Force have released images showing what they say is a sophisticated drug smuggling tunnel that leads from Tijuana to a warehouse in Otay Mesa.Federal agents made the discovery Thursday, March 19, as part of an investigation into a transnational crime ring suspected of smuggling narcotics into the U.S. via a cross-border tunnel. The U.S. exit point was discovered subsequent to the execution of the warrant, the task force said.Agencies from the U.S. and Mexico located a 2,000-foot underground from a warehouse in Tijuana, Mexico to a warehouse in the Otay Mesa area of San Diego, according to the task force. The tunnel has an average depth of 31 feet and is three-feet wide through most of the passageway, according to authorities. Authorities estimate the tunnel to have been in existence for several months.The task force described it as having advanced construction including reinforced walls, ventilation, lighting, and an underground rail system. Authorities seized an estimated .6 million in mixed drugs including 1,300 pounds of cocaine, 86 pounds of methamphetamine, 17 pounds of heroin, 3,000 pounds of marijuana and more than two pounds of fentanyl.According to the task force, the seizure is the first time "in San Diego’s history where five different types of drugs were found inside a tunnel."The tunnel has an average depth of 31 feet and is three-feet wide through most of the passageway.“I’m proud of the excellent work performed by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents, as well as U.S. Border Patrol and Drug Enforcement Administration agents as integrated partners of the San Diego Tunnel Task Force. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The plaques at the Hillcrest pride monument have been restores after being vandalized in February. According to the Hillcrest Business Association, the repairs cost roughly ,500. All the money came through donations from local businesses, the association said. The plaques were vandalized in early February. Pictures show faces and the pride flag scratched out.
