BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Health has said it will draw upon its experience from the H1N1 flu control to ensure prevention of the general flu, as the World Health Organization (WHO) announced plans for the post-pandemic period."Based on the experience from A/H1N1 prevention and control, we will revise emergency plans and will continue flu prevention efforts in a bid to ensure people's health," said a statement released late Tuesday by the ministry.Figures from the ministry show that the weekly new A/H1N1 cases have remained below 30 since mid-April. Further, no deaths have been reported for 12 consecutive weeks.While announcing the coming of the post-pandemic period, WHO Director-General Margaret Chan warned that the A/H1N1 virus will continue to spread as a seasonal flu for some years.Chan urged health authorities to maintain alert for the virus.So far, about 800 deaths from A/H1N1 influenza had been reported in China, Health Minister Chen Zhu said earlier.More than 100 million Chinese have been vaccinated against A/H1N1 flu as of May 14.The A/H1N1 virus was first identified in Mexico in April 2009. More than 211 countries and regions have reported laboratory confirmed cases of the flu, including more than 18,000 deaths.

ZURICH, Switzerland, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo and Doris Leuthard, president of the Swiss Confederation, held talks on Sunday and agreed to expand their bilateral cooperation.Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), delivered Chinese President Hu Jintao's regards to Leuthard. He said China will work together with Switzerland to push forward the Sino-Swiss ties.The Chinese and Swiss economies are highly complementary and have large potential in economic cooperation, said Wu. China expects to make joint efforts with Switzerland to strengthen cooperation in such areas as financial service, environmental protection, green economy and low-carbon technology while deepening cooperation in traditional fields, he said.Leuthard highly commended the progress in Sino-Swiss relations in recent years.She said Switzerland, which is one of the earliest western countries to establish diplomatic ties with China, gives great attention to a friendly cooperation with China and is willing to deepen the bilateral ties. Switzerland regards China as an important partner and looks forward to carrying out cooperation in environmental protection, energy-saving and sustainable economic development, she added.She reaffirmed the Swiss government's stance on one-China policy.During the talks, the two leaders also exchanged views on global issues such as financial crisis and climate changes.Wu is here on an official goodwill visit to Switzerland. BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) - China's economy is unlikely to see a "double dip" in the second half of this year, and the economic growth for the remaining six months is expected to surpass 9 percent, according to a Bank of Communications report released Saturday.China's economic growth will slow down in the next half year, while consumer prices would fall from its peak, said the nation's fifth largest commercial bank in a report on the outlook of China's economy for the second half of 2010"For China, it is never a recession unless the economic growth drops below 7 percent," said Lian Ping, chief economist with the Shanghai-based bank.The growth is sustainable and healthy for the economy as the growth rate stays around 9 percent, he said.China's exports, a major force driving the economic growth, would continue to rebound in the second half, and the growth for the entire year would stay above 20 percent, according to the report.For the latter half of 2010 consumption is to grow by 18.5 percent from a year ago while investment growth will drop steadily to about 21 percent due to government support to the private sector and strategic emerging industries, it said.Increasing labor costs, resources and food prices is expected to push up China's consumer prices, but the growth would be restrained in the second half due to the slowing money supply and eased imported inflationary pressures, it said.China's gross domestic product (GDP) expanded 11.1 percent in the first six months of this year from one year earlier, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed.China's consumer price index stood at 2.6 percent in the first half of 2010, according to the NBS, while retail sales and fixed asset investments grew 18.2 percent and 25 percent year on year, respectively.China would maintain a stable monetary policy for the rest of the year since the global economic condition is still complicated, and an interest rate hike is unlikely to be seen, said the report.The bank estimated that new loans for the entire year would stand between 7 to 8 trillion yuan (1.03 trillion to 1.18 trillion U.S. dollars).The bank also forecasted in the report that the Chinese government would remain tough with the property sector, but there is little possibility for additional curbs on the market. Property investment would largely fall, but there will not be a significant decline in property prices.Lian suggested that the Chinese government pay attention to the possible cumulative effect of policies on the economy and keep market liquidity at a reasonable level.

BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy had conducted a large scale of live-ammunition training exercise in the South China Sea, according to a front-page report on Thursday's PLA Daily newspaper.The exercise, which was carried out on July 26, brought together a large group of warships, submarines and combat aircraft.During the exercise, warships and submarines from the Navy's South China Sea Fleet performed precision strikes on surface targets by firing guided missiles while surface warships conducted anti-missile air defense operations, said the PLA's official newspaper.A naval aviation fleet also participated in air control operations, according to the report, which did not specify the exact location of the training or the number of participating warships.In overseeing the training, General Chen Bingde, PLA's chief of the General Staff, said that the PLA should "pay close attention to the development of situation and tasks" and make "solid preparation for military struggle which depends on massive military training" .
