LA MESA, Calif. (AP) — A man who police say brandished a gun from a van and a woman who then crashed the car with five children inside, injuring them, have been arrested. A person on Friday night reported that a man in La Mesa had a gun inside a moving vehicle. Police say an officer later tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over. Shortly thereafter, the car crashed. The officer pursuing the suspect found five children inside without car seats. LANATANA, Florida — A man jumped out of bushes and randomly attacked a woman with a chainsaw around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Lantana police said.The woman, who is in her 60s, was walking along Hypoluxo Road near Seacrest Boulevard when the man attacked her, according to police.The woman was taken to a local hospital for with serious injuries to the chest and hands but is expected to survive.Lantana police have the attacker in custody. They identified him as 20-year-old Juan Cabrera Jr."He actually made a comment that he woke up this morning, went and got something to eat. We can't confirm or deny if he's got any kind of mental illness or not. But he did make a comment to the investigator that he saw the lady in the area and he quote stated, 'I'm going to end this woman's life,' " Lantana Police Chief Sean Scheller said.The incident occurred near the Super 8 Motel at 1200 Hypoluxo Blvd., where the suspect was staying.The woman said she did not know the man and thought he was a landscaper, police said. LEUCADIA, Calif. (KGTV) - Roberta Walker, Executive Director of the Cardiff 101 Main Street Association and longtime advocate for more bike lanes, was hit by a truck while riding her bicycle Saturday morning in the Leucadia community of Encinitas. Walker was riding past the Leucadia post office on North Coast Highway 101 just past 6 a.m. when she was rear-ended by a truck, according to a Sheriff's Department spokesperson. They would not release any formation about the driver. Walker is currently in critical but stable condition. She underwent a second skull surgery Monday morning, and has also had a lung operation. Friends say Walker was a beloved and active member of the Encinitas community who has campaigned for increased safety along the North Coast Highway 101 corridor. In particular, she is a supporter of the plan known as the Leucadia Streetscape, which would remove one lane of traffic in each direction, replaced by bike lanes and roundabouts. Supporters say the plan would make the area much safer for those traveling by means other than automobiles. While the plan was approved by the city of Encinitas in 2010, it has been held up by years of battling over the details. That includes a lawsuit filed earlier in 2018 by residents who say the Streetscape plan would make traffic worse in the area and make it more difficult to access nearby beaches. "There is a certain amount of resistance to that chance," says Kellie Shay Hinze, a friend of Walker's. "But I hope what's clear now is this is an emergency." LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A woman was arrested after deputies say she assaulted the vice principal of her son’s school in Lakeside Tuesday. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department says the incident started when Monique Martin tried to pick up her son from school. When Martin was asked for identification, deputies say she became combative and physically assaulted the vice principal of Lakeside Middle School before returning home.
