Kevin Daly is a fit 62-year-old man who has lived an athletic, healthy lifestyle. That was why it was strange when his stomach continued to grow, despite losing weight. According to WCBS-TV, Daly had to convince his insurance company that his growing stomach was not being caused by drinking suds. Daly convinced his insurance company to allow a CAT scan. The CAT scan had a shocking result. Daly had a 30-pound tumor in his abdominal cavity."I never drank beer,” he told WCBS. “Don’t like it, always been athletic, never had a belly.”Daly had the tumor surgically removed, but the procedure was lengthy, lasting six hours. According to WCBS, the tumor was a low-grade, fatty cancer that had wrapped around an organ. Daly's doctor said that a kidney also had to be removed to ensure the tumor was completely removed. Because the tumor was slow growing, he will not need any sort of radiation or chemotherapy treatment. Daly will continue to be monitored with MRIs as a precautiion.  1035

JAMUL, Calif., (KGTV) — Nearly 200 volunteers helped to beautify an injured Navy Veteran’s new home in Jamul. “I stepped on one of the IEDs, and that’s when I got blown up,” Petty Officer Christopher Andrieu told 10News.He joined the Navy in 2007, and for his entire service, he has worked as an EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) officer. But in 2013, when he and SEAL Team 5 were in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, he sustained a life-changing injury. Since then, even little things have become arduous tasks for the double amputee. “To get the dishes down, I jump up on the counter if I’m not on my legs,” he chuckled. Andrieu and his family now live in a small house in Claremont. But thanks to non-profit, Homes for Our Troops, he will soon be moving up the hill to much larger home in Jamul. “It was my top choices for a lot, so I was really happy we got this,” Andrieu said. The lot has a beautiful view of the small town and has a spacious half acre front yard. The home is not finished yet but has appliances and shelves built slightly lower to accommodate Andrieu. It has been two years since Andrieu started the application process with Homes for Our Troops. One of the last big projects was the landscaping. That’s where the volunteers came in. “It’s really cool to support who we want to be,” volunteer, Alex Kulik said. Kulik is a senior at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, hoping to become an EOD expert. He and nine other Midshipmen doing summer training in San Diego volunteered to help the non-profit with the project. “I don’t think any of us has experienced what he has, and just to see his optimism, I think it should be able to push anyone,” Kulik said. “Military or non-military, to get through whatever their challenge may be, and come out with a smile in the end.“Andrieu’s heroism and positivity drove the hundreds of volunteers to create a luxurious yard in just 55 minutes."It's a life-changing moment for a deserving veteran," Community Outreach Coordinator for Homes for Our Troops, Mell Barbosa, said. “All the people who came out, I'd say most of them, I didn’t know beforehand,” Andrieu said. “I can’t even say it… it’s just awesome.”Homes for our Troops is sprinting to the finish line. KEYSTONE, Colo. -- A North Carolina man died after hitting a tree while skiing at Keystone Resort in Colorado over the weekend.The Summit County Sheriff's Office said CPR was in progress when deputies responded to the resort shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday.The 32-year-old skier from Raleigh had been on an intermediate trail when he struck the tree, according to the resort. Keystone didn't say which trail the crash occurred on. The victim was transported to Saint Anthony Keystone Medical Clinic, where he was pronounced dead."Keystone Resort, Keystone Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest's family and friends," Keystone Resort Vice President and General Manager Geoff Buchheister said in a written statement.The skier has not yet been identified. 833

Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron met with the family of Breonna Taylor Wednesday.Cameron's spokeswoman Elizabeth Kuhn said the meeting was an opportunity for the attorney general to personally express his condolences to Taylor's family.Kuhn released the following statement after the meeting: Attorney General Cameron was grateful today to meet with the family of Ms. Breonna Taylor, including Ms. Tamika Palmer, Ms. Juniyah Palmer, Ms. Bianca Austin, and the family's attorneys, as well as Christopher 2X from the Game Changers organization. The meeting provided an opportunity for Attorney General Cameron to personally express his condolences to the family. The investigation remains ongoing, and our Office of Special Prosecutions continues to review all the facts in the case to determine the truth. Taylor, 26, was killed on March 13 by Louisville police executing a now-banned "no-knock" warrant.One of the officers, Brett Hankison, was fired. The other officers involved in the case — Jon Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove — have been placed on administrative reassignment. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will lie in repose on the steps of the Supreme Court Building in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday and Thursday and will lie in state at the Capitol Building on Friday.In a press release Monday, the Supreme Court said Ginsburg's casket would arrive at the Supreme Court building at 9:30 a.m. ET Wednesday morning. After a private ceremony with Ginsburg's close friends, family and members of the court, Ginsburg will lie in repose on the front steps of the building.The public is invited to pay respects between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET on Thursday.On Friday, Ginsburg will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol on Friday following a formal ceremony, according to a press release from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.A private funeral service for Ginsburg will be held next week at Arlington National Ceremony.Ginsburg died Friday at the age of 87. She was appointed in 1993 by President Bill Clinton and served 27 years on the court.Ginsburg's family says her dying wish was that whoever is elected president in November should name her replacement.
