ESCONDIDO (KGTV) - Monday morning neighbors posted about a rash of graffiti in Escondido, a block away from Glen View Elementary school, outraged at the content and vandalism.On East Mission Avenue, just past Midway Drive, a home and two power boxes stained with black spray paint. One of the designs looked like a Star of David, causing concern online, worried the vandalism was anti-semitic."I noticed the graffiti over there, and that's just a disgrace," Grandmother Rose Ochoa said as she paused on her daily walk with two grandchildren on their way to pick up another grandchild."I feel disrespected. I feel like there's a lot of hate," Christina Landers said. She's lived in this neighborhood for about 27 years and said the graffiti has spread closer to her home, "it's crazy, it's like they're messing up our side of town.""I mean it's everywhere, you can't walk down a block without seeing it," Ochoa said. She moved to San Diego from Los Angeles and said she loves this neighborhood."I think they're too young to point it out right now," she said referencing her 4-year-old granddaughter and 2-year-old grandson, "and I'm thankful for that, but there's going to come a time that I'll have to explain it to them, and that's going to be hard because I teach them at home do not to write on the walls, do not write on the chairs and then we walk out here and see everything on the walls."One of the tags included what looked like the Star of David, concerning the owner of the home that was tagged."I talked to the guy, and the guy says I don't have any enemies I don't know why they'd do this to me?" Landers said.Around 11 a.m. the Escondido Graffiti Eradication Unit drove up, ready to repaint the walls and electrical boxes."It's very rewarding to be able to give back to a community I've lived in my whole life," City Worker Nate Tunnell said.Both he and his coworker said the work is constant, and thankful neighbors make it worthwhile."We've been fighting them, and it looks like we've been beating them too, so that's always going to put a smile on my face," Tunnell said. "Right on you're doing a good job!" ESCONDIDO (KGTV)- San Diego Zoo's Safari Park opened their Walkabout Australia habitat Friday to visitors, giving them a unique up close experience.One of the four areas, called the Grasslands, contains Kangaroos and Wallabies that roam freely alongside visitors. There's a path, but no fences or plexiglass keeping you separated from the animals."We have someone upfront to go down the rules of how to act and behave among the animals, and those rules transcend how to act and behave around wildlife whether you're out camping hiking or traveling around anywhere else," Rick Schwartz, San Diego Zoo Global Ambassador said.Many parents pointed out the marsupials to their children, using this as a learning opportunity,  "it couldn't get any better, this is the best way to read books and come and see animals in person," Victoria Calisch said.Her three-year-old son Luke said he thought the kangaroos were cool, "I saw a kangaroo but they were not running they were bouncing."The rules in the habitat: stay on the trail, don't sit down on the path and don't have open food or drink containers. If an animal comes up to you, you can interact with him or her."This exhibit space is so huge and it's on a slope so there are plenty of areas for the animals, if they're done being around people you won't even see them," Schwartz said.This is just one of four new habitats in the Walkabout Australia exhibit. Other animals include the tree kangaroo and sugar gliders.The zoo is open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 9 a.m. -5 p.m. Memorial Day.Tickets are for anyone 12 years or older and for kids ages 3-11. 1646

FALLBROOK (KGTV) -- Deputies are investigating a suspicious death in Fallbrook Tuesday afternoon. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the death was reported at Live Oak Park Road and North Ridge Drive in Fallbrook at an unknown time. At this time, it’s unclear how the individual died and how the body was discovered. Deputies investigated, then called in homicide detectives to take charge of the case, Lt. David Gilmore said.The deceased person's identity and details on the nature of the death remained unavailable this afternoon, the lieutenant said.City News Service contributed to this report. 628

ENCANTO, Calif. (KGTV) - A set of triplets took sibling rivalry to new heights in this year's spelling bee at O'Farrell Charter School.Seventh graders Miguel, Maya and Mia Brizuela finished 1st, 2nd and 4th in the school competition, respectively. Miguel advanced to the County-wide bee, held Thursday at Town and Country Hotel in Mission Valley."I'm very good at grammar, so it's really easy for me," says Miguel, when asked how he managed to win. But he also admits he got help from his sister, Maya."We were going back and forth, back and forth. And then, finally, Maya just decided to give up because she said that she didn't want to go to the county," he says.Maya confirmed the story that she let her brother win."Like, 1% of me wanted to win," she says. "But I have stage fright. I didn't want to go up there in the auditorium and spell words in front of a lot of people," she says.But it's Mia, who finished 4th at the school, who believes she's the best speller of the three."I felt like I needed to raise myself to their level of spelling," she says of her finish in the competition. "And I like to correct their grammar a lot."The three say they practice by holding mini-spelling bees at home, where their parents give them words to spell. They also study for 1-2 hours each night before bed.Now that Miguel had advanced to the County-wide competition, his sisters say they'll be there to cheer for him."He's my brother, I love him," says Maya.
