There's a new concept to contraception, and you may start seeing more advertising for it soon.It's an app, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just gave it the green light to start marketing.Natural Cycles claims to help prevent pregnancy by allowing women to track the days they are most fertile. It uses a woman's monthly cycle information and their body temperature, which users input daily.The app provides a calendar of green and red days. Green days indicate you're not fertile, while red days suggest you are.The app claims its’s 93 percent effective if used correctly. That estimate may be high though.Planned Parenthood, in general, claims fertility awareness is only between 76 and 88 percent effective.Regardless, the app does nothing to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.   The president of Advocates for Youth, a national organization that promotes young people’s rights to sexual health information, says there are some concerns surrounding the app.“Especially for many younger women, their cycle isn’t exactly regular, so if you've got an irregular cycle or you really don’t understand the implications of using fertility awareness, it’s a tough method to use,” explains Deb Hauser. “It’s not by any means foolproof.”The Natural Cycles app costs for a year or a month.The free trial offer isn't really going to help you, because it takes a few months for the app to get to know your body. 1445

Travis Reinking, the man accused of killing four people at a Nashville-area Waffle House on Sunday, is now in custody, Metro Nashville police said Monday. The arrest in a wooded area behind an apartment complex capped a day-long manhunt for the suspect police say unloaded an assault-style rifle at the restaurant in Antioch early Sunday morning.The tragedy sparked a cycle of shock, grief and anxiety among residents throughout Nashville.Nashville public schools started "lock-out" procedures Monday while Reinking was on the loose. "I had no idea that they had that program."Qquappe is just one of hundreds of dogs that were named after 911 victims as a part of the TSA Puppy Program from 2002 to 2012. From the moment Sherwin found out, every scent, every sniff with Qquappe took on new meaning."It took a minute to digest that because that's a big responsibility," Sherwin says. "You're taking on someones namesake like that and you want to be the best that you can be so you can uphold it. To the honor that they did."It meant even more when Sherwin met one of Lincoln Quappe's childhood friends, and sent pictures of Qquappe to his family."It hit home," Sherwin says. "It really hit's home with all the victims because it's not just a name that's there. You're actually talking to somebody that knew this person and grew up with them and knew all about them."While Qquappe might not understand the significance of his name, Sherwin says he embodies the same desire to protect and serve as his namesake."He's such a people lover," Sherwin says. "He loves children. He loves his job."And working alongside Qquappe, with everything he and his name represent, makes Sherwin love hers even more."Does it give you a sense of pride?"
