SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld San Diego welcomed two dolphin calves into the world within 12 hours of each other this week.The two bottlenose dolphin calves, born Wednesday at 3:50 p.m. and Thursday at 1:14 a.m., and their mothers are doing well, swimming together and bonding, the theme park said in a release.The dolphins have yet to be named.One of the calves was born to Malibu, a 21-year-old dolphin who gave birth at the park in 2009 to a dolphin named Kali, who remains at the park. The other, 16-year-old Maggie, is becoming a mother for the first time."As with any animal birth, the first few days are critical. SeaWorld veterinarians will monitor the mothers and babies around the clock, documenting respirations and nursing frequency," SeaWorld said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released Thursday the name of a man who was shot and died after reportedly breaking in to a San Carlos home. Hollis Forman, 38, entered the home in the 6300 block of Lake Shore Drive July 16 and began fighting with the 54-year-old homeowner, police said. The homeowner’s wife called 911 as her husband confronted the man. Police said the homeowner’s 20-year-old son grabbed a gun and shot Forman, who ran out the back door and fell into the pool. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Seven people are dead after contracting a flesh-eating bacteria linked to black tar heroin use in San Diego.County health officials said nine people who injected black tar heroin were admitted to county hospitals between Oct. 2 and Nov. 24 with a bacterial infection called myonecrosis, which is a severe soft tissue infection that destroys muscle. Of those victims, seven have died. The patients range in age from 19 to 57 years old.RELATED: Sixth death reported during San Diego's current flu season“People who use black tar heroin are not only at higher risk of dying from an overdose, but also more prone to developing myonecrosis and wound botulism,” said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer.One confirmed case of wound botulism linked to black tar heroin use was also reported in October — the first confirmed case in the county this year.Wound botulism, which attacks the body’s nerves, is also linked to heroin use. People who inject illicit narcotics like black tar heroin are at a higher risk of developing both infections, the county says.
