An autopsy has confirmed a man who died after a medical emergency mid-flight last week had COVID-19 and it likely caused his death.The 69-year-old man, identified by the coroner as Isais Hernandez, and his wife were on a United Airlines flight from Orlando to Los Angeles on December 14 when he had a medical emergency. Instead, he’s waiting for a second coronavirus test result.When the plane landed, United believed the man’s emergency was cardiac arrest, and they allowed passengers to “take a later flight or continue on with their travel plans,” the airline told NBC News.The airline says they were later contacted by the CDC and “are sharing requested information with the agency so they can work with local health officials to conduct outreach to any customer the CDC believes may be at risk for possible exposure or infection," a representative for the airline told CBS LA.United says Hernandez had filled out a questionnaire before boarding the flight, which asked about testing positive for COVID-19 and having symptoms. It is now apparent the man "wrongly acknowledged this requirement,” the airline said.A United spokesperson told the New York Times that as of Tuesday, no other passengers or crew members have tested positive for COVID-19 since the December 14 flight. 1931

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The Department of the Interior has approved an oil and gas leasing program within Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.The refuge is home to polar bears, caribou and other wildlife.Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt signed the Record of Decision, which will determine where oil and gas leasing will take place in the refuge’s coastal plain.He said in a statement Monday it was a significant step in determining where and under what conditions oil and gas development will occur.Congress approved the program in 2017, and the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management in December 2018 concluded drilling could be conducted within the coastal plain area without harming wildlife. 716

As Americans slowly return to work, older workers are finding the current economic situation much harder to navigate than their younger counterparts.Many large companies, including the airlines, are offering early retirement packages. For older workers, those buyouts come with uncertainty for their financial future.“These are tough times, especially for older workers,” said Susan Weinstock with the AARP.Weinstock’s concern is older workers are being forced out of work without enough saved for retirement. According to AARP, half of full-time workers experience job loss after the age of 50. It typically takes them double the time to get back into the work force as it does a younger worker, and even if they find a job, they end up making less money.For those over the age of 50 who have suddenly lost their job because of COVID-19, there's also less time to make up retirement savings that were lost.“We know saving through work is the best way to save for retirement, and when you don’t have that option it makes it a lot harder,” Weinstock said.Weinstock's advice if you're over the age of 50 and out of work is to use this time to upscale or re-scale. She suggests finding an online class. Showing employers that you're a lifelong learner can make you more marketable.“We want to make sure older workers are able to recover from this, along with everybody else in the economy,” Weinstock added.For those working from home, Weinstock recommends taking the money you might have spent on commuting and putting it into your retirement account. 1557

As bottles of hand sanitizers and stacks of disinfectant wipes continue to fly off the shelves amid the coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. government issued a stamp of approval for another household cleaning product.The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) gave Pine-Sol Original Multi-Surface Cleaner the approval "for kill claims against SARS-Cov-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, on hard non-porous surfaces," according to a press release.To prevent the spread of COVID-19, those looking to use Pine-Sol is encouraged to apply the Pine-Sol multi-surface cleaner with a clean sponge or cloth on hard, nonporous surfaces. Once the surface is wet, let it stand for 10 minutes and then rinse, the press release says.In March, the EPA released a list of household products that kill the coronavirus. An explosion rocked a United Parcel Service freight facility in Kentucky on Wednesday morning, injuring at least two people, but authorities say they doubt that the blast stemmed from a terror attack. Instead, it appears to be accidental, they said.The incident took place in Lexington. UPS spokesman Glenn Zaccara told CNN that 12 employees were at the site. Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.In a message on Twitter, the Lexington Fire Department said, "Nothing leads us to believe this is anything other than an accidental explosion."Fire officials also tweeted that six people were taken to the hospital for observation.Initial reports indicate the cause may have been a leak from materials contained in a trailer, Zaccara said.Lt. Jessica Bowman, the fire department's public information officer, said the building is used for truck and trailer maintenance and that there are other UPS buildings in the area that are still in use."There was significant damage to the building. A large area of the roof was blown out and interior walls were knocked down, as well as exterior damage. There's pieces of the roof and insulation on the ground," Bowman said. "There is no life hazard. Crews are on the scene stabilizing the building."UPS is working with local authorities and won't provide additional details while there is an ongoing investigation, officials said.An FBI statement obtained by CNN Law Enforcement Analyst Josh Campbell said the agency "is aware of the incident and is working with our local and state partners to assist as needed.
