SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — USO San Diego's annual "Santa Store" event kicks off with a special event Tuesday night at their downtown office.The event allows children of military service members to pick a free present they can give their parents as a holiday gift."It just helps give a little more holiday cheer for our service members who do so much to keep us safe and secure at home," USO San Diego CEO Lorin Stewart told 10News.Volunteers collected and wrapped thousands of presents, including watches, tool kits, headphones, makeup kits, and handbags. "They love being able to talk about what mom and dad are into and what they like, and then have that surprise under the tree," said military spouse Ashley Camak, who organizes the annual event. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Video captured a man smashing display cases inside a Mission Valley mall jewelry store Wednesday evening.The cell phone video given to 10News shows a suspect using whatever he can find to smash a jewelry case inside Zales.The incident started around 2:15 p.m. when a witness saw the man wearing a Padres jersey walking around suspiciously.The witness first saw the suspect take a hat from a kiosk before walking into Champs Sports, taking off his jersey and stealing a Nike jacket.The man then began to untie a pair of shoes on a mannequin in an attempt to steal them. Once he saw people watching him, the suspect left the shoes and ran to the jewelry store.He grabbed a pipe and tried to break open a jewelry case. After the unsuccessful attempt, he then grabbed a mirror and tried to do the same thing.Unsuccessful again, the suspect grabbed a chair and continued to smash the cases until he was able to stuff some necklaces into his pocket.By the time the man broke the display cases, police had arrived on scene, taking the suspect out in handcuffs. 1081

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection says officers seized more than 43,000 pounds of drugs at California ports of entry in June.Across six ports of entry along California's border with Mexico, CBP says officers stopped attempts to smuggle 34,685 lbs. of marijuana, 7,661 lbs. of methamphetamine, 635 lbs. of cocaine, 166 lbs. of heroin, and 165 lbs. of fentanyl in June. The total street value of the narcotics is more than million.The narcotics were found strapped to individuals' bodies and hidden in areas of vehicles, like gas tanks, trunks, seats, and quarter panels, according to CBP."These are impressive results and no matter what is occurring in the country, CBP officers remain vigilant," said San Diego CBP Director of Field Operations, Pete Flores. "CBP officers’ determination and instincts led to the confiscation of these drugs to keep our country safe."CBP says some of the most significant seizures included:June 4: 11,000 lbs. of marijuana in a shipment of limes seized at the Otay Mesa cargo Port of EntryJune 8: 43 lbs. of fentanyl pills and meth hidden in the quarter panels and trunk of a vehicle at the Andrade Port of EntryJune 17: Nearly 21,000 lbs. of marijuana discovered in a shipment of electronics at the Otay Mesa cargo facilityJune 24: 134 lbs. of meth found in doors, quarter panels, and gas tank of a vehicle at the Calexico West Port of EntryJune 24: 104 lbs. of cocaine found hidden in a compartment behind the backseats of a vehicle at the San Sedro Port of Entry 1529
