A student at Island Park High School in Florida was suspended after the principal and other staff members saw him imitating a gun with his hands and pretending to shoot in a classroom.This happened Friday. "You shouldn't be doing something like that at all," former Island Park High School student Devan Hinton said."It's just not something to be taken lightly," Sam Sherman, who lives in Fort Myers, told Scripps station WFTX in Fort Myers, Florida.The principal called the Lee County Sheriff's Office to file an incident report after he saw the student "imitating a rifle with his hands and pointing it to the classroom."Another staff member described the student making "a gesture with his arm simulating as if he was firing a weapon into the classroom."A third staff member said the student "stood in the classroom doorway and made a machine gun style pose with his arms pretending to shoot at the classroom.""That isn't OK. With everything going on, that's not something to joke about. That's lives in someone's hands," Hinton said.The principal said he didn't think the student was serious but will not tolerate this behavior in school, so he suspended him.It's an action Sherman said he agrees with for the safety of the students."It's better to be preventative than wait and let it go on, and God forbid something else occur," he said.The principal of Island Park High School, Arthur Nauss, sent WFTX this statement:"I took the disciplinary action of sending the student home after I observed him pointing his finger at another student imitating that he was shooting a gun. The student pointing the finger and the student he was pointing at know each one another and were laughing at one another. There was no threat being issued but I believe it necessary to make it clear to the student, and all our students, that this is unacceptable behavior considering the recent events here in Florida. I called the student’s mother to inform her of what had occurred and let her know I would be working with the student in the future to ensure this behavior does not reoccur.When the student returns to school he will be informed that any future actions such as this one will result in a suspension or expulsion from school. I will also let him know that actions like this in the future will be reported to the appropriate authorities." 2379

A tourist was stabbed while playing slots Monday at the Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas.It happened shortly after 1 a.m. A man, who was visiting from another country with his brother, was approached by another man who asked him for a cigarette.The man then stabbed the tourist in his side with warning or provocation.The victim's brother chased the suspect but was unable to catch him.The suspect was later spotted by security guards at Four Queens. They called 911. A patrol unit then spotted the suspect near Fremont Street and Maryland Parkway and arrested him.The victim was transported to a local hospital and expected to be discharged later today, according to Watch Commander Lt. A man who held up a "Trump 2020" sign while riding Splash Mountain at Disney World says he has been banned from the park for life.Dion Cini of New York City donned a "Make America Great Again" visor and strategically held up a "Trump 2020" banner so it would show up in the on-ride photos that are available for purchase near the exit of Splash Mountain.NBC News reports that Cini was later told that he has been permanently prevented from visiting its parks.Disney told NBC that it wasn't the content of Cini's sign that resulted in the ban but the fact that he held up a sign "to incite a crowd."Disney World's park rules state that "unauthorized events, demonstrations or speeches, or the usage of any flag, banner or sign for commercial purposes, or to incite a crowd" as among its prohibited activities.Cini posted a picture of his ride photo, along with what appears to be a ticket documenting his ban from the parks on FacebookAlex Hider is a writer for the E.W. A Pacific Beach woman was hospitalized after tripping over a dockless scooter left next to a traffic light on Garnet Avenue.The incident happened July 1, the day the city began enforcing scooter regulations. Ellie Fellers, who is in her 80s, was trying to cross Mission Boulevard at Garnet Avenue to mail a letter. She says she pressed the button to cross on the the traffic light, which was surrounded by unused scooters. Once she got the signal, she turned to cross but tripped over a scooter.Fellers says she suffered two concussions and a bleed above her adrenal gland. "Enough of this," Fellers told the City Council Tuesday. "The money you're making on those scooters can't possibly make up for the amount that it's costing you."The new city rules call for painted corrals that designate where scooter riders can leave the devices. However, they're currently only located in downtown. On Wednesday in Pacific Beach, there were scooters left along the sidewalks or toppled over in piles. "All of this is making it very difficult for pedestrians to get around town, and we've noticed that people who normally walk for exercise, like Ms. Fellers - they're saying we don't feel comfortable walking for exercise in our own community," said Scott Chipman, a 45-year Pacific Beach resident and a member of its community planning group.A spokeswoman for the mayor says 100 dockless scooter corrals will be added in Pacific Beach, and another 80 in Ocean Beach, by the end of the month.Meanwhile, Chipman and other residents are reporting that many of the scooters are not slowing to the geo-fenced limit of 8 miles per hour along the boardwalk.Annalisa Snow, who was riding a scooter along the boardwalk Wednesday, said she hasn't noticed any change."I haven't personally," she said. "It lets you go fast."What is in effect is a requirement that operators stage the devices in groups of four maximum, with 40 feet of space in between each group. A UPS driver in Clackamas County, Oregon called his wife who then called 911 after he heard cries of "help" coming from inside a residence while the driver was on his route. It turns out that the UPS driver was tricked by a parrot. The incident took place Monday evening, according to the Oregonian. The Oregonian reported that the UPS driver became distressed over what sounded like a human's cry for help. He then called his wife, who then called 911, alerting authorities to the screams. Deputy Hayden Sanders responded to the scene, expecting it to be tense. But thankfully, within minutes, Sanders had a reason to laugh. Sanders confirmed that Diego the parrot was behind the screams. After concluding that everyone, including Diego, was safe, Sanders posed for a photo with the mischievous parrot. The photo was then posted on the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.  929
