This morning he received a life-changing gift that will give him more freedom when he finally makes that transition. Dozens of family and friends gathered outside the VA Hospital in La Jolla as the Stacy family was given the keys to their new adaptive van. “I'm nervous to drive it though,” says wife Lindsey Stacy. “It’s very big but. I’m just so thankful that we are going to have something that’s going to accommodate our family.”The large van will not only be able to seat Stacy but their eldest son, who is also in a wheelchair. “We can all just fit with everything that we have, and we can all just continue on with our lives,” says Stacy.Help Our Military Heroes has gifted over 100 military families with adaptive vans. 911

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With the cost of living going up in San Diego, a lot of people are looking for ways to make extra cash. A new startup in San Diego called Bounce wants to help drivers maximize their income. "The drivers are the most important element," said CEO Mark Potter. Potter transformed the front of his law office into the startup space. He is a longtime fan of rideshare. "Before there was rideshare, I was hiring people off craigslist to give me rides," Potter said.His model for this new company is to focus on the driver and give them more incentives to want to stay and work for the company. "Our drivers are owners. They earn ownership in our company through stock options," said Potter. This stake in the company is one of the main reasons Pamela Bernier signed on to be a driver. Bernier said, "Working my own hours, calling my own shots, still enjoying the income and the people at the same time."Bounce also has a repeat customer option. Riders have the freedom to create a list and request their favorite drivers. They also have the luxury to arrange future rides in advance.  According to the company, this provides a safer environment for both the rider and driver and also gives the driver a more consistent cash flow. "I could bounce you here, I can bounce you there, I bounce you home, where you wanna bounce let's go," said Bernier. Uber and Lyft are two other companies dominating the rideshare space. According to Lyft, 68% of drivers are primary earners of their household, and so far in 2018, Lyft passengers also spent an additional million on local businesses in town. According to Uber, rideshare and delivery drivers in California took home more than .97 billion in gross revenue for 2017. Bounce is set for a September launch, and the company is currently interviewing drivers. They require in-person interviews and background checks for each driver. They are also in the process of putting in a panic button option in the app for riders to feel safer during their ride. "We envision is that our company will be very successful with loyal drivers that put Bounce first. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Two U.S. Army Special Operations soldiers were killed and three others were injured during an aircraft incident, a U.S. Army official confirmed.The incident happened around 7 p.m. Thursday evening during what was described by a U.S. Army Special Operations Command public affairs officer as “routine training.”Department of Defense officials confirmed a Blackhawk helicopter crashed on or near San Clemente Island. An Army Public Affairs Officer sent ABC 10News a statement reading: “An element of U.S. Army Special Operations Command was conducting routine training in the vicinity of Coronado, California, on August 27, when an aircraft incident occurred. Two Soldiers were killed and three were injured. The area has been secured and an investigation into the incident is underway. More information will be released 24-hours following next of kin notification. Our sincere condolences go out the families and friends of the deceased. We thank you for not contacting them during this difficult time.”ABC 10News learned the soldiers were taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital following the incident.Brian MacPherson saw the helicopters land at the hospital, "I knew something was really really wrong ... My mind immediately went to sympathy for that soldier because I knew a sacrifice had been made."He said the first responders ran out with a gurney, "it looked like one of the doctors jumping on the gurney, straddling the injured soldier and providing CPR that is just something dramatic it caused me tears driving to work, just thinking about the sacrifice that our military is making even in training.""It saddens me that some of our elite members that are sent to protect our freedoms were injured in training, preparing for the ultimate sacrifice which in this case two of them made for us," he said.Just last month, on July 30, another military training accident occurred off the coast of San Clemente Island when an amphibious assault vehicle accident began to take on water and sank, killing nine service members.ABC 10News will update this story as more information becomes available. 2120

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two men are dead and a woman is in critical condition after a car crashed into a Mission Valley bus stop Thursday.A driver collided with the three pedestrians in the 7500 block of Metropolitan Drive around 11 a.m. The driver remained at the scene for San Diego Police.One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other male victim was later pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. Both victims were identified as men in their 40s.A 49-year-old woman was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, police say.Police and a friend of the female victim say the three pedestrians were sleeping behind the bus stop with their belongings at the time of the crash. Jessica Nelson said she knew the 49-year-old woman and brought her some clothing and make-up earlier that day. She said she tried to convince her to go eat with friends, but the woman stayed with her husband, according to Nelson.Nelson said the pink bags strewn about the crash sight belonged to the victim, she called Kelly.Nelson said she met Kelly a year and a half ago at the bus stop where the accident took place. She said they are both battling heroin addiction and frequent the methadone clinic nearby.San Diego Police are investigating the crash.10News is monitoring this breaking news. 1301
