EL CAJON (CNS) - A resident at an East County independent-living facility was ordered Thursday to stand trial on a murder charge for allegedly killing a fellow resident by beating him in the face and head with a frying pan following an early morning argument.Brad Masaru Payton, 26, faces 26 years to life in state prison if convicted of the murder charge and an allegation of personally using a deadly weapon in the killing of Matthew McCarthy.Police said the violence at the transitional group home in the 1200 block of Naranca Avenue in El Cajon was reported shortly before 5 a.m. last Dec. 20. Patrol officers arrived to find a badly beaten McCarthy in a bedroom at the residence, said El Cajon Police Lt. Payton was arrested without incident.According to Miller, the victim and the defendant knew each other and lived in separate rooms. Earlier this week, both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration investigate an outbreak of salmonella infections across multiple states, possibly linked to imported wood ear mushrooms.The agencies said consumers should be on notice when ordering food with mushrooms because the dry mushrooms, which were likely imported by Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. of Santa Fe Springs, California, could cause salmonella infections.The agencies say the dry mushrooms were shipped to restaurants in 31 states and Washington, D.C."Consumers can ask restaurants where mushrooms are from before ordering to avoid eating recalled mushrooms," the FDA said.The CDC says 41 reported cases of the salmonella infection in 10 states, and four people have been hospitalized.On its website, Wismettac Asian Foods said they voluntarily recall the 5-pound bags of dried fungus imported from China. 920

(KGTV) - The driver accused of killing a pregnant woman on Mother's Day in Ramona is at the East County Courthouse Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.Prosecutors say Andrew Milonis, 44, was driving under the influence and struck and killed 29-year-old Jessica Foderingham and her unborn daughter in May.Milonis is accused of leaving the scene on San Vicente Rd. and hiring a Lyft driver to take him to a bar.Milonis is facing eight felony charges, including murder. 504
