An 11-year-old boy in Colorado is being called a hero after performing the Heimlich maneuver and possibly saving his younger brother from choking on his dinner.“So I got behind him went like this, pushed and pulled up about four times so the chicken could pop out and it did,” Elias Yatrakis told Denver7.Elias and his younger brother, Alex, were eating dinner on Monday night in their Greenwood Village home after a baseball game when the incident happened. The older boy says he knew what to do and jumped into action.“I was relieved. I was glad he was OK,” he said.“From my perspective, he saved his life,” mom Danielle Yatrakis said. “I’m just really glad he had the confidence and the knowledge to know what to do.”The 11-year-old had that knowledge because he had just recently learned what to do in a situation like this.“I am a Cub Scout so we had to take this CPR class in our basement and it taught CPR, the Heimlich,” he said. “I wasn’t really thinking. I knew what to do since I did that class.”Elias had earned his first aid badge as a part of the Cub Scouts just a few months earlier.“When he got the badge I’m like, 'that’s great to know,' but I mean I learned CPR before and I never used it. And so you’re kind of like they’re nice things to know and I now feel differently. That was really serious and important that he paid attention,” his mom said.The boys spent the evening after it happened with a lot of hugs and gratitude, according to their mom, but have since gone back to the same competitive young boys that they were before.KMGH's Jason Gruenauer first reported this story. 1609

As businesses continue to gradually reopen, visiting some may come with more risk of coronavirus exposure than others.Dr. Daliah Wachs broke down the COVID-19 exposure risk of various establishments.Medium risk for COVID-19 exposure are places like hair and nail salons, according to Dr. Wachs.“You’re right there up in their face, waxing their eyebrows, you can’t do that 6 feet social distancing,” said Dr. Wachs.According to new COVID-19 guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people should wait in their car until their hair or nail appointment, and to pay by phone.Medium risk of exposure locations also includes sit-down restaurants, grocery stores and the doctor’s office, according to Dr. Wachs.Dr. Wachs says a doctor’s office can pose a danger due to a higher concentration of sick people being in one place.Inching closer to the highest risk locations are spots like bars, casinos and gyms.“You’re exhaling a lot, so gyms need that extra social distancing, much more than six feet,” said Dr. Daliah.The CDC advises those in gyms to wipe down equipment with disinfecting wipes, and to wear a mask if the workout is low intensity.When it comes to high risk of exposure, Dr. Wachs says parents should be mindful of day care facilities.Another high-risk spot is the Department of Motor Vehicles, according to Dr. Wachs.“You start to come up on the person ahead of you, you almost mentally try to move yourself closer. America's aging infrastructure is expected to be a hot topic for voters in the upcoming midterm elections.Lawmakers on both sides want to fix it, but there’s one major sticking point: how do you pay for it?President Donald Trump has proposed a trillion plan to improve aging roads, bridges and tunnels across the country.Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao told Fortune magazine there's one sticking point between the two parties.“How do you pay for it, is the toughest question,” says Chao. “There are many ways of paying for the infrastructure proposal, and I would say the majority of them are not ones I could get consensus from in this audience.”One way that Republicans propose to raise money will impact most Americans directly.“A gas tax increase and a diesel tax increase of about 15 cents a gallon for gas and 20 cents for diesel to help fund this, because we do need to fund infrastructure upgrades,” says Republican strategist Ryan Williams. “We can't make the money appear out of thin air.”Republicans also want to raise money by letting private sector businesses help finance projects.Democrats have come up with their own trillion-dollar plan.“Where's the money [going] to come from? We don't want to increase our deficit. The tax bill's done that enough,” says Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY). “We say take some of those tax breaks from the wealthiest Americans and put them in middle class jobs.”Democrats want to increase the tax rate on the rich, raise the corporate income tax and reverse cuts to the estate tax.But the Democrats admit, as of now, their plan has little chance of going anywhere.“These are all ideological steps the Democrats are taking, because they don't control the House or the Senate,” says Democratic strategist Tiffany Cross.Both sides do agree they don't expect any action to be taken on infrastructure until after the midterm elections. 1887
