A ceremony was held at the Veterans Museum, in Balboa Park this morning, where many had a chance to ring America's Freedom Bell in honor of the victims. The names of all nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives were read. "Its that fear of this could happen again," says Michael Timson. "That's why we have to have tributes like this; to remember, to be ready, and to honor the people who lost their lives that day."America's Freedom Bell was first rung 23 times for the law enforcement officers who were killed. The bell was forged with 11 pounds of steel from the World Trade Center. "I saw the second plane hit and I said this isn't an accident. This is an attack," says Timson. "It was really hard for me to understand what was going on."The ceremony symbolically started at 8:46 a.m. to coincide with the time in which the first tower was hit. "These are people, innocent people, in two buildings and the pentagon that were hit by terrorists," says Richard Rovsek, Chairman of the Spirit of Liberty Foundation. "I think Americans should never forget that."Bell ringers will receive a personalized commemorative certificate which will include a full list of the victim's names. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) In light of the death of George Floyd in Minnesota, the Racial Justice Coalition of San Diego is calling for a ban on all neck restraints used by law enforcement officers."They are inhumane, they are improper," said Yusef Miller with the coalition.Miller has called on San Diegans to write to local leaders demanding a ban on any neck restraints still used by officers.It's called the I can't breathe campaign."Whether kneeling on a neck, which is unconscionable or putting them in a carotid restraint, we're saying to ban all those restraints," he explained.Under the San Diego Police Department's use of force policy, carotid restraints are approved.Officers are not allowed to use their knees.A chokehold cuts off a person's air supply and can be deadly, which is banned by SDPD.The carotid restraint instead cuts off the blood supply, which can knock a person unconscious but is considered less dangerous overall."The carotid restraint becomes the chokehold in the field, and people are killed in this manner," said Miller. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A young mountain lion that was spotted looking at his reflection in the glass of an office tower in downtown San Francisco was safely captured Thursday and released into the wild.The disoriented animal roamed the streets of the city for two days until he was spotted by a police officer near Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants.The mountain lion was first seen Tuesday by a motorist in a neighborhood known for the famously crooked Lombard Street. 487
