But with that comes the possibility of more little creatures living off all that glorious foliage. So can San Diegans expect more mosquitoes buzzing around this season? When it comes to mosquitoes, you have to wait and see if more rain equals more bugs. That is because increased rainfall can create more—or fewer—places for mosquitoes to lay eggs and breed. Places where water may have been stagnant could be flowing and mosquitoes don’t breed in flowing water," Northrup said.That's why the county urges residents to dump out standing water that may have collected due to recent rains.That message was amplified Friday, as the county reported the first sign of summer as a dead hawk in Lakeside tested positive for West Nile virus. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County announced Wednesday if the county continues to hit state triggers with the spread of the coronavirus, museums, zoos and aquariums could be on the long list of closures Monday.The measures apply to any indoor activities.Balboa Park just reopened the Air and Space Museum two weeks ago, after everything closed down in March due to the pandemic."We want to make sure people come back to the park, it is the cultural heart of San Diego," Executive Director of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership Peter Comiskey said.Comiskey said this weekend more of our favorite museums are set to open. Friday the Science Center, the Veterans Museum, the Natural History Museum and the International Gift Shop are set to reopen, with three more museums opening Saturday July 4.The possibility those openings could be short-lived is something Comiskey says they're ready for."We're certainly hoping all the people of San Diego County are really able to pull together and make sure the infection rate and the case load and all these lovely metrics, these important metrics can be contained and can be controlled," he said hopefully.Comiskey said if they have to close Monday after putting so many precautions and time in to ensure the park is safe, they will.Looking to the future, he said they're brainstorming how to bring in money to help these cherished icons survive."I think as time goes on we need to look at what fund-raising is possible, I think we need to look with those organizations that rely on revenue through the gate." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego Harbor Police are investigating an apparent drug overdose that sent four men to the hospital Thursday.Harbor Police said four men were found unresponsive on a charter boat docked at Fisherman’s Landing, off San Diego Bay, at around 9 a.m.ABC 10News learned investigators are looking into the possibility the men may have overdosed on drugs laced with fentanyl.The men were given Narcan and taken to the hospital. Narcan is typically used to aid someone suspected of overdosing on opioids, including heroin and prescription pain medications.There is no immediate word on their condition. 623

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego lifeguards towed the remains of a beached whale from Blacks Beach to Fiesta Island Monday, hours after two whales were spotted off Orange County.Lifeguards found the grey whale on the shore about 11 a.m. It was towed from the Torrey Pines area to Mission Bay and arrived at 3:30 p.m.Experts with the National Marine Fisheries will perform a necropsy to determine why the whale died.The discovery came within an hour of a rare sighting in Seal Beach in Orange County.Two whales appeared to be stuck in one spot between a sandbar and the shoreline, near the end of the San Gabriel River Trail.Witnesses called California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials to check on the animals, KABC reported. 752
