SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police announced Tuesday the arrest of a man suspected of sexually assaulting an elderly woman in a nursing home in Hillcrest. Detectives took Lusean Arline, 48, into custody Monday for the crime which occurred Oct. 27. Police did not release the name of the nursing home, but administrators with Balboa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center confirmed with 10News the attack happened in their facility.Police said the 88-year-old victim was inside the nursing home when Arline illegally entered the facility. He sexually assaulted the woman, who was in her bed, officers said. RELATED: Police arrest man suspected of biting Hillcrest restaurant workerThe victim and other patients in the room began screaming. “When staff members responded, Arline ran away,” police wrote in a news release. San Diego Police Sex Crimes Unit investigators collected evidence at the scene, including male DNA which was processed by the Crime Lab and loaded into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Arline is currently being held on a parole violation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan announced Monday a motion to reduce thousands of marijuana convictions.The motion asks the San Diego Superior Court to reduce 25,000 marijuana convictions, ranging from felonies to misdemeanors, and dismiss another 1,000 misdemeanor convictions completely.“We’ve been a leader in the state and pro-active on giving individuals with marijuana convictions the opportunity to move forward with their lives without a conviction that may have been negatively impacting their lives by restricting their employment or housing,” said Stephan. “This latest motion is the continuation of work that began more than two years ago. It’s clear that the law was written to allow this relief, and it’s important that we give full effect to the will of the people.”RELATED: Los Angeles uses tech to wipe out 66,000 old pot convictionsUnder AB 1793, passed in 2018, the DA's office must notify the court of eligible cases by July 1, 2020. But according to the DA's office, officials have actively been reducing or dismissing eligible marijuana cases under 2016's Proposition 64, which legalized recreational cannabis. Since 2016, the DA's office says it has reduced or dismissed more than 1,600 marijuana-related convictions.Under Prop 64, sections regarding cultivation of marijuana, possession for sale of marijuana, and sales and/or transporting marijuana — all felonies — qualify for resentencing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are searching for a gunman after a man was shot in the chest in East Village Sunday morning.According to San Diego Police, the shooting happened on the 500 block of 7th Avenue just after 2 a.m.Police say the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.As of 8 a.m. Sunday morning, no suspects were in custody.At this time, the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear. 452

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego City Council President Pro Tem Barbara Bry is calling for an audit of a city-leased building repeatedly shuttered over asbestos.The building at 101 Ash Street was closed Saturday and city employees were relocated for "the next few weeks" over asbestos violations, Bry said in a memo. Bry added that she received an update on June 17, 2019 that the project at the location remained "on schedule and within budget" after she requested an update 10 days prior."It is apparent that 101 Ash Street is neither on-time nor on-budget. The costs put the project on hold, leaving the building vacant, City News Service reported.Construction was also stopped over asbestos violations in August 2019.Bry is now asking the city to answer a slew of inquiries over the city's process used to inspect and purchase the building, total costs to-date associated with employee relocations, unforeseen budget increases, subcontractor performance, and the financial impact on the city's Development Services Department."It continues to be frustrating to hear about issues with 101 Ash Street," Bry wrote.Prior to the city leasing the building, the location was occupied by San Diego Gas & Electric from 1968 through 1998, and by Sempra Energy from 1998 through 2015. 1921
