CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Chula Vista City Council candidate Andrea Cardenas announced Thursday that she tested positive for coronavirus. In a statement released to the media, Cardenas said she self-isolated roughly two weeks ago after feeling symptoms of the virus. Cardenas said she went to urgent care, where she lost consciousness twice. She was sent home with medication before being notified she'd come into contact with multiple people who tested positive for COVID-19. "It took 10 days to get my results," she added. Cardenas went on to warn that everyone should be on the lookout. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A suspect police say led them on a chase in a car that was reported stolen has been arrested.Chula Vista Police say they received a report of a stolen Honda Civic Tuesday. After spotting the car around 3:02 p.m. Wednesday near I-5 and E Street, police tried to pull the driver over, but he led them on a chase through city streets, running several red lights in the process. The suspect then drove onto State Route 54. After the suspect began to drive east in the westbound lanes, police called off the chase.Shortly after police called off the chase, the suspect got out of the car and ran into the Villa Bonita apartment complex. The suspect was arrested after residents at the complex were able to point out which unit the the man went into.  808

(KGTV) -- Police arrested a 33-year-old transient in connection with a series of fires set in a river bottom area of Chula Vista since early summer.Chula Vista police said Alejandro Gonzalez was taken into custody Sunday after officers responded to a reported brush fire near the 1700 block of Fourth Avenue.According to police, Gonzalez was spotted by officers “walking quickly away from the scene of the fire.” Officers made contact with him and during questioning they found Gonzalez “in possession of several lighters.”Gonzalez was described as a transient known to frequent Chula Vista’s river bottom area.In a news release, police said: “During questioning by officers, Gonzalez admitted to intentionally setting several brush fires in the river bottom area over the past 5 months. Gonzalez claimed he was setting the fires due to hearing voices.
