"Strong leads" are being pursued to catch two men believed to be responsible for multiple fatal shootings across the Nashville area, police said. At this point, Metro Nashville Police said they are connecting three, different shootings with four victims – three of whom have died. The police department tweeted Monday morning that Chief Steve Anderson met with detectives in the case and said strong leads are being pursued. The first incident happened back on Aug. 8 in the Inglewood area when a 39-year-old woman was shot while walking her dog just before 1 a.m. She survived but police have confirmed the shooting left her paralyzed.Less than a week later, investigators said 31-year-old Kendall Rice was walking to work when he was robbed and fatally shot on Alta Loma Road in Madison. Kendall RiceThe third shooting linked to the spree happened around 3:30 a.m. Friday in East Nashville outside of The Cobra Nashville, a local bar.  Four people were heading to get a snack at a convenience store when they were robbed. (CNN) - A Japanese man died on board a flight from Mexico City to Tokyo with 246 packets of cocaine in his stomach.Identified only as Udo N., the 42-year-old passenger flew from Bogota, Colombia, to the Mexican capital, where he transferred to a flight to Narita airport, Tokyo, according to a statement from the prosecutor's office for the Mexican state of Sonora."Crew noticed a person suffering convulsions and requested to make an emergency landing in Hermosillo, Sonora," reads the statement. At 2.25 a.m. local time (5.25 a.m. ET) on May 24, paramedics boarded the plane and found the passenger had died.An autopsy revealed that Udo N. died from a cerebral edema caused by an overdose, according to the statement. There were 246 plastic packets of cocaine in his stomach and intestines, measuring 1 by 2.5 centimeters each. After his body was removed from the plane the flight continued its journey to Japan with 198 passengers on board.Swallowing packets of drugs is a common way that smugglers try to move illicit substances from country to country. In September 2016 a 48-year-old Australian man was caught with 1.1 kilograms (2.4 pounds) of cocaine in his stomach at Sydney Airport, Australia. The man, who lives in Thailand, had passed a baggage examination when he told police he had ingested a large number of packets filled with cocaine. 1354

"You might want to step back," said Darryl Clinton as yet another explosion boomed nearby. He seemed to know exactly what that sound meant. A fissure that violently cracked open the earth's surface was spewing more lava and, possibly, more lava bombs -- flying chunks of molten rock.Clinton spoke to CNN on Friday, while defending two homes in Pahoa roughly 100 yards from the unstable fissure that's been erupting for more than a week now.Even to get from one house to another takes a life-or-death game of frogger.Clinton pointed to the remains of one lava bomb purged from a nearby fissure that landed just inches from a friend's house. The yard was littered every few feet with with fallen lava, but Clinton wasn't worried about getting hit by the hunks of molten rock."It's almost like catching a football," Clinton said in describing how to avoid being hit. "But you don't want to catch this football."Armed with just a fire extinguisher and a garden hose, Clinton has been defending the homes that belong to friends. He's been spraying down the burning lava bombs that hit the houses to prevent them from catching fire. Heaps of flaming rock have already shattered windows and destroyed a septic tank -- setting it ablaze with a blue flame of burning methane gas.A day later, Clinton fell victim himself -- distracted by his cell phone for mere moments, when a bowling ball-sized lava bomb hit him in the leg while he was standing on the porch. His friend and ex-wife Lisa Roach was nearby and able to take him to the hospital. She had been helping him defend the homes -- the pair were keeping watch in shifts.Roach told CNN she believes the intense heat of the lava bomb actually cauterized the wound, preventing it from bleeding more than it did.The burning projectile also set Clinton's porch ablaze, but a neighbor managed to extinguish it. Clinton is currently in the hospital, recovering. Roach said he can already wiggle his toes, but won't be able to put weight on his injured foot for at least six weeks. He's had two surgeries already, and will likely have more, but is expected to recover. 2112

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – There’s a hidden gem right off the I-5 freeway in Mission Hills that took over 20 years to create. “It’s just been a wonderful thing,” said Edna Harper, designer of Harper’s Topiary Garden. Her garden sits on the massive hillside of her home and has been attracting visitors for years. More than 50 whimsical characters are featured, each one inspired by Harper’s world travels. The project started as a bet between Harper and her husband."My husband said to me, 'Oh, I don't think you can do this,'" Harper said. "He didn't know how much it was gonna cost him ... he said, 'alright if you win, I'll pay for the gardener and the water.'" In addition to the elephants, the garden also has characters like cats, puppies, a whale, and Harper’s favorite: the hitchhiker. Harper’s gardener Pedro has been helping to bring her visions to life. “My favorite part is seeing all the people come by and take pictures,” Harper said. The garden has become her canvas and a place for your imagination to run wild. “Whatever you want it to be, that’s what my garden is,” Harper said. “It makes people happy, and that makes me happy.” If you decide to visit the property off Vine and Union in Mission Hills, the owners ask that you don’t climb or destroy the plans. They also suggest taking pictures from across the street to get the full view. 1638
