But as doors open there is a buzz in the air over the possibility of stricter gun laws.In response to the Parkland school shooting, Florida Gov. Rick Scott says no to bump stocks, no guns for the mentally ill and yes to raising the age you can buy legally buy one.You won’t find an AR-15 ban or extended background checks in Scott's plan. But in a break from the National Rifle Association, of which Scott is a member, he does not want to arm teachers. At the gun show, Scripps station WFTS in Tampa found a split in support from his own constituents.“Change needs to happen and I don’t see why not try something," said Jason Walker said, long-time gun owner and an Air Force member. When it comes to Scott's plan, Walker said he supports it overall.Eric Oyola on the other hand said he does not. He is the owner of Class 3 Outbreak, a gun manufacturer."I think the laws that we have in place right now are good enough to prevent any crime," said Oyola. “They’re just taking the rights from the law abiding citizens for people that are going to do it anyways.”Oyola is talking about the bump stock ban. As an AR-15 dealer, he especially rebuffs any plans that would target these types of guns. No worries for him under Scott’s proposal. The governor also rejects banning them.Scott does, however, want to raise the age you can buy from 18 to 21-years-old.“If you can fight for your country, come home and not be able to have an AR-15 or even buy a rifle, I think it’s not fair," Oyola said.“I don’t believe you should be able to buy a long gun at age 18," said Walker.Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) said believes without an AR-15 ban the proposal does not have any teeth.“It’s a step in the right direction, but it doesn’t get at the core problem of how you are going to stop a person with an assault weapon of walking into a crowded place," Sen. Nelson said. What about Scott’s plan to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill?“It’s going to be a hard thing to do because people at any time can flip out whether they are under the radar or not," said Walker.Neither Walker nor Oyola are convinced it will work. What about the so-called gun show loophole where private sellers aren’t required to conduct a background check?“Absolutely, everybody should have a background check," said Walker.“I’m a licensed dealer," said Oyola, "If you can’t pass a gun background check, you shouldn’t have a gun.”A consensus? Still, background checks aren’t in Scott’s plan either. The governor is also calling for a 0 million plan to increase school security. It includes placing police officers in every school in the state. Plus, hiring more mental health professionals. The Florida House and Senate have until the end of session on March 9 to pass any new gun legislation. 2891.99 when ordering through the chain's app or website.Wawa: Anyone who signs up for Wawa Rewards can cash in for a free coffee of any size on Tuesday. 1731

Starting a business can be hard - it takes a lot more than renting an office and printing business cards. But a new group is launching in San Diego to help women take control of their careers.Dames Collective promises to connect female entrepreneurs to key resources and help them network, so they can launch their own businesses."We don't want to just stand by the sideline and watch women trying to start their own business. We want to help them thrive," said Chanel Sonego, who founded the group with Brittney Hogan.San Diego Attorney Kelly DuFord says her life was a lot different when she had a boss."I was working at least 80 hours a week, and I would bring my work home with me," she said. She says she was missing out on valuable time with her young daughters, so she and her husband Craig launched their own law firm. DuFord still works a lot, but on her own terms - she says she takes time off on Monday mornings and some Wednesdays, but works Saturday nights. DuFord, who does employment law and business formation, says she makes more now than she did when she had a boss."You might be doing something that you don't even know you can make a business out of, but if you are passionate about it and you can do a common thing uncommonly well, you can start your own business," she said. Memberships at Dames Collective are a month, but Sonego says the group is working on lower cost options for students. The city of San Diego also has guidelines for starting a business, including 10 key steps entrepreneurs need to make.   1605

TAMPA, Fla. — George Streets, Jr., is just 10-years-old and he’s somewhat of a boxing phenom.“When I was little, I always wanted to box,” George, Jr. said. His trainer Malcolm Peck has been working with George for about a year.“The determination, the way he processes things, the energy he has is different,” Peck said. “It’s definitely different.”When George was a 2-year-old, he would walk around the house punching everything in his path.“T trained by punching the couch,” he said. “My dad would be asking me what I was doing. I’d be ‘ha, ha, ha, ha’ punching the couch.”“He punched a hole in the side of that couch,” his father George, Sr. added. And, that’s how he got the nickname — Lil Savage. He’s mildly autistic and diagnosed with an extreme case of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Boxing has improved his focus.“Boxing allows you to utilize that energy, stay focused, if you’re not focused and you look to your left or right, you’re going to get hit in the face,” George, Sr. said. “It’s going to hurt pretty bad."“It helps him with his attention span tremendously. His grades have improved. He went from being a D-F student to an A-B student.”Lil Savage trains for about four hours each day. He wakes up a 5 a.m. for conditioning drills and goes to the boxing gym after school. The hardest part for him getting into the ring was finding a trainer willing to work with such a young boxer.“No one wanted to train me because I was a little kid,” George, Jr. said. “But when I showed them I could spar, then they really wanted to train me.”He knows the stakes are high with gloves on in the ring, and he wants to be on top.“My goal is to be the best boxer and be myself.”You can see Lil Savage in action later this month. He will be the half time show during the ‘Rumble in the Bay’ boxing event at the JCC Center on November 21.This story was first published by Kyle Burger at WFTS in Tampa Bay, Florida. 1947
