Workers at a restaurant in Ohio refused to complete a catering order for troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol amid civil unrest over the death of George Floyd. The restaurant chain, Condado Tacos, closed its Columbus-area locations on Tuesday after workers accused the restaurant of firing them for not completing the order. Columbus has had its share of unrest since Thursday night, when protesters broke out the windows to a number of downtown businesses and government buildings.According to the restaurant, one of its restaurants received a catering order that was placed by the Ohio Highway Patrol, with a number of workers refusing to fulfill the order. The restaurant said that management communicated that workers who were uncomfortable with completing the order did not have to work on the order. The restaurant said that a few employees chose not to finish their shifts, and that no one will lose their jobs as a result of Monday’s incident. “Condado was built as a place for everyone, without judgment or fear,” the restaurant said in a statement. “A place where originality and being unique are embraced. We are also a family that cares for and about each other. From the first day we opened our doors, we have included all people as employees and as guests in the Condado world. We want to be clear that we stand against racism – always have and always will.”The decision to close on Tuesday affected six locations. It is unclear when the restaurants will reopen. An employee told 1512

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Rapper Snoop Dogg and singer Stevie Wonder were among those who took the Staples Center stage Thursday to honor rapper Nipsey Hussle, who was gunned down in front of a clothing store he owned in the South Los Angeles community he was dedicated to revitalizing. The ceremony was the first of its kind at Staples Center since a memorial service for Michael Jackson was held there in 2009.Thousands attended the service, which got began about an hour late due to long lines of people trying to get into the arena. The event began with tracks being played from Hussle's album "Victory Lap.'' A highlight reel of Hussle's life was also shown, set to the sound of Frank Sinatra's "My Way.''RELATED: Four shot, one killed during funeral procession for Nipsey Hussle The highlight reel was followed by a performance by singer Marsha Ambrosius and words from Minister Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam."It is a great honor for me and for us to be here to honor a life that will become more famous in death than in life, and the work that his life will produce will go down in history as something that changed the world,'' Farrakhan said. Social media personality Karen Civil read a letter to the crowd from former President Barack Obama. "While most folks look at the Crenshaw neighborhood where he grew up and see only gangs, bullets and despair, Nipsey saw potential. He saw hope,'' Obama wrote. "He saw a community that, even through its flaws, taught him to always keep going.'' Anthony Hamilton and Jhene Aiko also performed songs before several of Hussle's relatives spoke, including his mother, Angelique Smith; his father, Dawit Asghedom; his brother, Samuel Asghedom; and his fiancee, Lauren London.Asghedom, Hussle's older brother, told a story about being impressed upon hearing music Hussle made when he was a teenager. He said he decided that if his little brother could do it, so could he, so he started writing. "I must have wrote for two weeks, and then I threw all that away. I said, OK, it skipped me,'' Asghedom said. "You know this is a real story. I told him from there, `You're special. Just whatever I can do, we believe.'''After telling a few stories, London said she wanted to address Los Angeles directly and asked all the Angelenos in the audience to stand up."Because this pain is really ours. You know, we know what it meant to us,'' she said. "We began as friends, we lost someone very rare to us, and we lost a real one. And we won't ever be the same.''Snoop Dogg had the crowd laughing through much of his speech, including a story about how Hussle once advised him to open his own amusement park called "Doggyland'' with 40-ounce roller coasters. He also said that despite Hussle's affiliation with a faction of the Crips gang, he became a "peace advocate" by making music with musicians associated with other gangs."And for those that knew Nipsey Hussle personally, you knew he had nothing but love for every gang member from Southern California,'' he said. "I don't care what neighborhood you was from.''Before performing, Wonder called for stricter gun laws and said "it is a heartbreak to again lose a member of our family. It's a heartbreak because it's so unnecessary.''Security was tight in and around the arena, contributing to the slow pace of people entering the arena. Los Angeles police noted that "a last-minute rush of mourners caused congestion and brief delays at entrances'' at the arena.Tickets for the event were distributed free through an online system on Tuesday, and they were all claimed within minutes.People who were unable to attend the ceremony were still given a chance to pay respects to Hussle, thanks to a 25-mile procession through South Los Angeles, dubbed a Victory Lap. The procession moved from downtown, south on Vermont Avenue, east on Century Boulevard into Watts, then back west on Century and north on Crenshaw Boulevard, passing by Hussle's The Marathon clothing store.Thousands of people lined the route of the procession at various points, some tossing flowers onto the hearse carrying Hussle's body as it was driven past, and other moving into the street to touch the slow-moving vehicle.A large crowd assembled outside The Marathon store, many people waiting since early in the morning for the procession to pass by.By late afternoon, the crowd became restless at times, prompting surges of people into the street, toppling barricades that had been placed to clear a path for the hearse to pass. At one point, a balloon is believed to have popped, startling the crowd and prompting many people to push into the street. Police formed skirmish lines to push the crowd back, and appeared to restore order without arrests or major injuries.More officers were brought in as the procession neared the location to help keep the street clear. As the procession approached the store around 5:40 p.m., a security team encircled the hearse and walked alongside the vehicle to escort it through the crowd and allow it to keep moving -- at a crawling pace.As the hearse moved into the area, the boisterous crowd became respectfully calm, with spectators lifting their cell phones to snap photos. The convoy repeated came to a stop when people pushed too far into the street, blocking the hearse's path. The 33-year-old Grammy-nominated rapper -- whose real name was ErmiasJoseph Asghedom -- was fatally shot March 31 in front of The Marathon Clothing store. Last week, 29-year-old Eric Ronald Holder Jr., an aspiring rapper and acquaintance of Hussle, pleaded not guilty to one count each of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, along with two counts of attempted murder.Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Teresa Sullivan ordered Holder to be jailed in lieu of million bail while awaiting his next court appearance May 10, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to allow the case against him to proceed to trial.Holder could face a potential life prison sentence if convicted as charged, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said Holder got into some type of personal dispute with the rapper outside the store, then left and returned with a handgun. Hussle was shot in the head and body and died at a hospital, according to police and the coroner's office. The police chief declined to discuss the nature of the disagreement between Holder and Hussle but stressed the shooting appeared to be a result of that dispute, not any type of gang rivalry or feud.Hussle transformed himself from a South Los Angeles gang member to a rap musician and channeled his success into efforts to help others stay out of gangs. He bought shoes for students, re-paved basketball courts and provided jobs and shelter for the homeless.Hussle helped renovate a Mid-City roller rink and redeveloped the strip mall that housed his Marathon Clothing shop where he was fatally wounded. On Friday, the Los Angeles City Council is expected to adjourn its regular meeting in honor of Hussle, according to Councilman Marqueece Harris Dawson, a friend of Hussle's. At that same meeting, Harris-Dawson is also expected to introduce a motion to rename the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard as "Ermias `Nipsey Hussle' Asghedom Square.'' 7342

(AP) - With CBD showing up everywhere, U.S. regulators announced Tuesday they are exploring ways the marijuana extract could be used legally in foods, dietary supplements and cosmetics. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it will hold a public hearing May 31 to gather more information on the science, manufacturing and sale of cannabis compounds like CBD.In the meantime, it issued more warning letters to companies for making unapproved health claims about CBD products.Products containing CBD are already in stores and sold online, so it's easy to believe there must be something special about the ingredient. But the claims are largely unproven and quality control standards don't exist.RELATED: Can using CBD products cost someone their job? A look at what we know as U.S. regulators work out what will and won't be allowed:WHAT IS CBD?CBD is one of more than 100 compounds found in marijuana. It's extracted using alcohol or carbon dioxide in factories. It's added to oils, mixed into creams and lotions and sold in candies and liquid drops.Widely sold online, CBD now is going mainstream with major retailers offering salves and balms for the skin. Prices range from to 0 an ounce at high-end shops.CBD often comes from a cannabis plant known as hemp, which is defined by the U.S. government as having less than 0.3 percent THC. That's important because THC is what causes marijuana's mind-altering effect.CBD doesn't get people high, although it may be calming. Keep in mind some CBD products may contain THC, whether or not the label says so.RELATED: CBD-infused foods become rising trend in 2019People drug tested for work, addiction programs or because they take prescription opioids should take note: CBD products have caused people to fail urine drug screens.IS IT A MIRACLE CURE?If you believe the hype, CBD treats pain, relieves anxiety and both helps you sleep and keeps you focused. Most claims are based on studies in rats, mice or in test tubes. Some human research has been done, but in small numbers of people. One exception: For two rare seizure disorders, the evidence for CBD was strong enough to convince the FDA to approve GW Pharmaceutical's drug Epidiolex, which contains a purified form. The FDA announced Tuesday it has sent warning letters to three companies marketing products with what outgoing Commissioner Scott Gottlieb called "egregious, over-the-line claims" for CBD's effects on cancer, Alzheimer's disease, fibromyalgia and drug addiction. Gottlieb said the agency "won't tolerate this kind of deceptive marketing to vulnerable patients."RELATED: CVS Pharmacy selling cannabis-based products in stores in California, 7 other statesOnly drugs that have been reviewed by the FDA as safe and effective can make claims that they treat or prevent diseases or medical conditions. Many CBD producers attempt to sidestep the issue by using only vague language about general health and well-being.ANY SIDE EFFECTS?Scant research means not much is known about side effects either. In epilepsy research, CBD changed the way the body processed other drugs. That suggests CBD could interact with medications in ways we still don't know about. The most common side effects of the CBD drug Epidiolex include sleepiness, decreased appetite, diarrhea, increases in liver enzymes, exhaustion, rash and infections. FDA's Gottlieb noted Tuesday the potential for liver injury and other risks can be handled with medical supervision but less is known about how that would be managed without oversight. And there are questions about overlap if multiple CBD products are used.IS IT LEGAL?For now, the agency has said CBD is not allowed as an ingredient in food, drinks or dietary supplements. In stating its position, the FDA cited a provision of the law prohibiting food makers from using active drug ingredients or those that are the subject of substantial research. But the agency doesn't have the resources to police all the CBD products that are already available, said Marc Scheineson, a former FDA official.RELATED: Creator of Jelly Belly releases CBD-infused jelly beans"They're not going to pull a thousand products from the market," he said. The FDA's authority is over interstate commerce, and local officials have taken differing approaches. In New York, Los Angeles and elsewhere, officials are warning eateries to stop selling it in food and drinks. Maine passed a law allowing it in foods and other products in the state.Skin creams and cosmetics may be on safer footing with the FDA, but that too remains uncertain, said Camille Gourdet of RTI International, a nonprofit research institute in Durham, North Carolina. Though cosmetics aren't subject to premarket approval by the FDA, they could run afoul of regulations if they make specific health claims.Marijuana itself is illegal under federal law; most states that have legalized it allow marijuana-infused foods and candies, called edibles.ARE CBD LABELS ACCURATE?What you buy may contain much less CBD than the label states — or much more. It may include more THC than you want and it may be contaminated with mold or pesticides. Ask to see testing reports.A 2017 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found 70 percent of CBD products were mislabeled. Researchers used an independent lab to test 84 products from 31 companies."You're really flying by the seat of your pants when you buy this stuff," said author Marcel Bonn-Miller of University of Pennsylvania.A product labeled as containing 100 milligrams of CBD may only have 5 milligrams or it may have 200, said Bonn-Miller, now an adviser for a company that sells CBD and other cannabis products. He did not work in the industry when he did the research."I wouldn't trust any of it until I knew independently it was safe," Bonn-Miller said.WHAT'S AHEAD?CBD research is planned or underway for cancer, autism, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, alcoholism with PTSD and psychiatric conditions. Results will take years, but some people aren't waiting."They are vulnerable and really hoping to feel better," said Karen Hande, a nurse practitioner at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville. She became an expert in CBD because so many of her cancer patients were trying it. She tells them the evidence isn't enough to back the claims, but "they want to believe something is going to work." 6383

(AP) -- Contestant Ken Jennings is the winner of ‘Jeopardy’s' entertaining tournament to name the mythical 'Greatest of All Time' player in the game show's history. Jennings won by being bold in Tuesday's tournament, three times betting all of his points on one question, and three times answering correctly. His closest competitor James Holzhauer had a chance to win when he bet all his points on a question about Shakespearean tragedies, but was wrong. Jennings won three matches, Holzhauer one and Brad Rutter came up empty. The real winner was ABC-TV, where the prime-time contest was a big hit. 607
