A Detroit police officer who was recorded punching a naked woman at a Detroit hospital has been suspended with pay pending an investigation.According to Detroit Police Chief James Craig, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has also started a criminal investigation into the officer's use of force.The incident started with a call around 6:45 p.m. local time on Wednesday. When officers arrived, they saw a naked woman on the street. Officers put her in a police car and took her to Detroit Receiving Hospital. According to Craig, the woman was not agitated during the entire ride to the hospital, and officers were able to cover her up. Craig said the officers did not handcuff her.Once at the hospital, the woman threatened hospital staff and security staff, spit on several employees, bit a security officer twice and tried to bite another police officer.Craig says an officer struck the woman several times, ignoring the Detroit Police Department's de-escalation tactics."The suspect had her back turned but the officer continued to punch," Craig said. "We have grave concerns for the officer's action."The department is investigating the incident, on top of the prosecutor's office, and they are in the process of downloading body camera videos. According to Craig, the officer is an 18-year veteran of the force, is a corporal, and has a good record. He hasn't had a complaint since 2015 and not does not have a "category one use of force incident"— when a use of force incident results in injury.The woman was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and had some minor contusions but is in stable condition.Officers have interviewed several hospital staff, but are in the process of trying to locate the person who took the video showing the use of force.According to Craig, the officer did undergo their mental health and emotional survival training twice in 2016 and once in 2015. He said the department has "above average" training when it comes to people who have a mental illness. 2018

A federal judge has sentenced a Louisiana man to 25 years in prison for setting fires at three churches in the state in 2019.Earlier this year, Holden Matthews admitted that, between March 26 and April 4, 2019, he intentionally set fire to three churches in with predominantly Black congregations near Opelousas, Louisiana — Greater Union, Mt. Pleasant and St. Mary Baptist Churches — in an effort to raise his profile as a "Black Metal" musician by copying similar crimes committed in Norway in the 1990s.On Tuesday, Matthews was sentenced to 15 years in prison for intentional damage to religious property. He was then sentenced to 10 years in prison for a charge of using fire to commit a felony. Matthews did get 18 months credit for time already has served.The judge also asked the Bureau of Prisons to ensure he is placed in a facility near his family and that he receives substance abuse counseling and mental health treatment.Matthews was also ordered to pay restitution of 0,246 to St. Mary, 0,213.30 to Greater Union, and .1 million to Mt. Pleasant."These churches trace their origins to the post-Civil War Reconstruction period and, for generations, were a place for predominantly African American Christians to gather, pray, worship, and celebrate their faith," Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband said in a statement. "The churches survived for nearly 150 years but did not survive this defendant's warped act of hatred. I extend my sympathy to the victims of this defendant's arson spree, the congregants of St. Mary Baptist Church, Greater Union Baptist Church, and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. A growing number of members of Congress are fearing for their own safety and they are being threatened at an alarming rate.After nearly being assassinated while at a baseball practice last year with other Republicans, Congressman Steve Scalise found himself the target of another threat this month. Authorities arrested a man, after he left threatening voicemails for Scalise. Investigators said they found 200 rounds of ammunition and books on homemade explosives at the man’s home, along with receipts for an assault rifle and a handgun, according to court records.“Hopefully he gets a serious sentence, because you can’t allow this kind of threats and violence against people based on their political views,” Scalise said during an interview on Fox News.Arizona Congressman David Schweikert has served in Congress since 2010. He said he and his family are dealing with a growing number of threats.“We had more death threats last year in my office--even one towards my little girl--than we ever had in all of the other years combined,” Schweikert said during an interview on “Plaidcast,” a podcast hosted by Rep. Sean Duffy.In June, California congresswoman Maxine Waters canceled events in Alabama and Texas, after she said she received a “very serious death threat.”According to the House Sergeant of Arms Office, the number of threats against members of Congress are skyrocketing. So far this year, the office said there have been more than 1,600 threats against members of the House alone. A Los Angeles coroner says rapper Mac Miller died from a mixture of some pretty heavy drugs. The rapper died two months ago and his autopsy shows the combination of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol is what killed him.Miller was 26 years old and a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His real name is Malcolm James McCormick and he had a public struggle with drug abuse, USA Today reports.   415

A group of Las Vegas shooting survivors is coming together to send a very special gift to Jason Aldean. Their goal is to use the gift to ask Aldean to come back to Las Vegas to finish his concert that was tragically interrupted the night of the mass shooting.Tiffany Thomas created a Facebook group called “58 Survivors 1 Last Set." Survivors of the shooting quickly learned about the group and the online community chatted about their stories of that infamous night.“After it happened, all I could think about was Jason Aldean,” said Thomas. “I kept thinking like he was up there, he was on that stage, he was singing for us.”Through the Facebook group, Tiffany met another survivor named Gina McKin. The women came up with the idea to make a Shutterfly book to send to Aldean.McKin took charge of the book and asked everyone to send their favorite pictures of the night before the shooting rang out.The book ended up being 91 pages long to represent Route 91.In the book, McKin dedicated different pages to victims and survivors. Some people wrote messages to Aldean.The 0 book took months to finalize.The group of women are sending the book to Aldean along with a few other special items.They are using the gift to ask Jason Aldean to come back to Las Vegas and finish his set. Their idea is to open the concert up to survivors and victims and families of the victims.“It would just be so bonding and so amazing and so emotional and I think so healing.”Scripps station KTNV in Las Vegas was in touch with Jason Aldean’s communications team about the book.KTNV was told they are excited to see the book but cannot officially comment on if Aldean will be back to perform just yet.The women are putting the package in the mail this week. “I hope that when he opens it, he just sees that we love him and that we know what he’s going through,” McKin said. 1889
