BEIJING, March 2 (Xinhua) -- A senior public security official of China on Tuesday urged relevant departments and local authorities to do a good job in ensuring security and maintaining stability as the annual national parliamentary and advisory sessions approach.All local authorities and relevant departments should make further efforts to ensure the meetings of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) go on safely and smoothly, Yang Huanning, administrative vice minister of public security, said at a national teleconference."The task of ensuring security and maintaining stability during the two sessions remains onerous" despite previous efforts in this regard, said Yang."We should keep clear-minded and never lower our guard," Yang warned.He urged local officials to do more work in dissolving social conflicts and try to root up troubles that may disturb stability.The vice minister also ordered to minimize the inconvenience that security measures might cause to people's life and work.Incidents that might disturb social stability and threaten security should be handled properly and strictly according to the law, Yang warned.Huang Ming, vice minister of public security, demanded at the same meeting emergencies and breaking events be dealt with promptly and properly.The annual full session of the CPPCC National Committee, the top advisory body, is slated to open Wednesday afternoon, while that of the NPC, the national legislature, is scheduled to open Friday.

BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- China and Vietnam held a reception in Beijing on Friday to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.     Chen Haosu, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said China and Vietnam were friendly neighbors, which had frequent high-level visits, broad trade and economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges.     Chen said the establishment of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA) on Jan. 1, 2010 will further boost the mutually-beneficial cooperation between China and Vietnam. BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's National Bureau of Corruption Prevention said in a circular posted on its website Monday that it would explore ways to fight corruption in non-public commercial entities and "new social organizations" in 2010."New social organizations" refer to intermediaries, non-governmental organizations and private non-business groups. Statistics from the Ministry of Civil Affairs showed there are around 400,000 such organizations in China.Industry associations will also be monitored for corruption, according to the circular, which highlighted the bureau's work in 2010.The bureau promised that it would earnestly exchange and cooperate with the international community in the anti-corruption efforts.It said that authorities would continue working to prevent officials using public money to travel overseas and they would work on the implementation of regulations for supervising officials whose spouses and children have emigrated abroad.It also pledged to improve transparency of government affairs as well as factory and village management's dealing of local affairs.According to an survey carried out by People's Daily Online, corruption has remained one of the top three concerns of Chinese netizens since the survey was initiated in 2006.Chinese authorities' latest move in the fight against corruption took place on Saturday as the State Council issued a revised regulation on the implementation of the Audit Law, which aims at tightening supervision of areas highly prone to corruption, including the construction industry.

BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- China will soon clarify the rules and regulations on qualified foreign institutional investors (QFIIs) trading stock index futures in China, the China Daily reported Friday.     "The regulator will work on the policies and regulations on securities companies, mutual funds and QFIIs ... in order to guarantee the smooth launch of index futures," the newspaper quoted Shang Fulin, chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) as saying at a national conference on securities and futures supervision that ended Thursday.     CSRC will also enhance supervision on securities firms that provide brokerage services for index futures trading and improve the country's cross-market supervision regime, the newspaper quoted Shang as saying.     Foreign institutions may be allowed to trade index futures using a portion of their QFII quota, but details on trading requirements are still unknown, said the newspaper.     At the conference Shang also said that the regulator would introduce margin trading and short selling pilot programs at the appropriate time, according to the newspaper.
