(KGTV) -- The longest-serving mail carrier in Carlsbad is set to retire Friday after 58 years of service.Mack Mata Jr. will be recognized Friday in front of his peers and family.“It’s not often we celebrate an employee who has served the Postal Service for 58 years,” said Postmaster Cindy Gibson.In the fall of 1960, Mata and his fiancée were downtown when she saw a “help wanted” sign in the window of the post office. After applying and completing a test, Mata was sworn in as a postal employee in Carlsbad in November of the same year.Mata recalled his fond memories at the office, saying he would watch kids grow up and move away only to return and become his customers.Mata also remembers the time he saved a woman along his route. “One day, something told me I should check on her and sure enough, I found her lying on the ground after she had fallen and couldn’t get up. She said, ‘I knew you’d eventually show up to help me.'A lot has changed since then. Mata says he used to make special deliveries on his bicycle and stamps only cost four cents.Mata is now married to Sheila Mata, who works at the Vista Post Office, has two sons, four grandchildren and plans to spend lots of time gardening and traveling with his wife after retirement. 1278

CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. — Almost three weeks after a fatal crash that sent a golden-doodle running near Pueblo, Colo., a family has him back in their arms.The family, who was visiting from Wichita, Kansas, had been driving along the edge of a mountain west of Pueblo on Aug. 7, when their vehicle slid off the edge and tumbled 600 feet down an incline, according to the Associated Press. The crash killed Jennifer Orr and seriously injured her 21-year-old daughter, Samantha. The 1-year-old family golden-doodle, Bentley, was thrown from the vehicle and ran away from the crash.In the days after the crash, the family created and actively posted on a Facebook page Bring Bentley Home to try to find the dog. When Samantha Orr was released from the hospital, she returned to the crash site to search for Bentley. Her family posted their thanks and pleas for help every few days on the Facebook page.  On Saturday evening, Samantha Orr posted an update she had been waiting for for 19 days.  In the video, she’s tear-eyed and hugging Bentley.“My heart is BURSTING,” she wrote on Facebook. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who shared, liked, handed out flyers, spread the word, or sent kind words, or any of the millions of ways people have shown their kindness since the accident. The world has so many amazing people in it, I am SO unbelievably grateful.”Bentley was found early Saturday after Orr and others returned to the site.  They spotted him and encouraged him to walk over with food and a toy, according to the AP. He was reluctant at first, but Orr said they slowly moved toward each other. A video captures the reunion.“Good boy, good boy, come here, baby,” Orr said. “Come here Bentley-boo, come here baby boy.”After some encouragement, the dog walked over a patch of rocks to Orr.“And from then it was nothing but tears and celebration!” the post reads. “Bentley is okay, he’s a little malnourished and dehydrated. CARDIFF, Calif. (KGTV) - Three boys are recovering from an angry wasp attack at a park in Cardiff.Along Windsor Road, feet from an elementary school, five boys between 7 and 14 years old were inside a private park in the Park Place community two Sundays ago. They were about a 100 feet from the fenceline along Windsor Road. Frank Bocchini's son was the oldest boy in the group."Doing what young boys do, exploring and having fun in nature," said Bocchini.The fun quickly turned into a nightmare."He saw the wasps and told the young boys to stay away from there," said Bocchini.Bocchini's son was the first to see the insects near a tunnel structure. "The wasps reacted quickly after he said that. It was a nest that quickly turned into a swarm...screaming and crying, because they were getting hit," said Bocchini.Three of the five kids were stung, including two 7-year-old boys who were stung dozens of times."The older boys were trying to get the wasps tangled in the young boys' hair," said Bocchini.Bocchini's son and another boy frantically tried to help the other children. "At one point, the whole jacket was covered in wasps on this young boy. He told the boy to take the jacket off and run," said Bocchini.That boy did, and eventually ran out of harm's way."He was upset and scared," said Bocchini. The 7-year-old boy ended up in the emergency room with 24 stings and hives on his body. The incident unfolded as wasp season should be wrapping up. Experts tell us the hot weather has extended the season along with the dangers.The property management company for Park Place confirmed a pest service relocated the yellow jackets. Experts say you should run from wasps, and running through trees and bushes may help slow them down. If you're stung, don't take the stinger out with tweezers. Instead, scrape it out with a credit card so you don't push more of the venom into your body. 1899

(AP) — Jimmie Johnson is the latest NASCAR superstar to climb out of his car, with the seven-time champion announcing Wednesday that 2020 will be his final season of full-time racing.The winningest driver of his era will have a 19th season in the No. 48 Chevrolet and once again chase a record eighth championship. California Democrat Gil Cisneros has defeated Republican Young Kim in a closely watched House race, adding yet another blue seat to the party's new House majority.Cisneros, a former Navy officer, will represent California's racially diverse 39th Congressional District, which was previously held by retiring Republican Rep.
