SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 27-year-old man suffered non-life threatening knife wounds to his back and abdomen when he was attacked by an assailant this morning in the Logan Heights community of San Diego, a police officer said.The victim was walking across a pedestrian bridge in the 2000 block of Kearny Avenue a little after 1:05 a.m. when the suspect walked up behind him and stabbed him in the back and abdomen, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department."The victim thought it was a punch until he felt blood and realized he was stabbed,'' Heims said. "The victim ran across the street and it is unknown where the suspect went. SAN DIEGO - A 13-year-old Tierrasanta, California boy is battling for his life after family members say he was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.A week ago Sunday, Grant Eyles started throwing up while his mother drove him and his siblings back from Los Angeles.  He quickly developed a fever, but didn't get worse until Thursday, when he lost mobility on his right side and became confused.His mother said a battery of tests pointed to bacterial meningitis, where membranes around the brain and spinal cord become inflamed, and it started with a common ailment."It was a complication essentially from a sinus infection. The infection breached the sinus cavity and went into the brain," said family friend Vanessa Bredehoft.Over the weekend, seizures forced doctors to place Grant in a medically induced coma.  Grant remains in critical condition.County health officials say many strains of bacterial meningitis do not require an alert for person-to-person prevention, and this appears to be one of those cases.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help with the family's expenses. 1107

(KGTV) -- Governor Gavin Newsom's new proposal would make California the first state to establish its own generic drug label in hopes of lowering the cost of medications, CalMatters reports. The proposal is part of the state budget expected to be sent to the legislature on Friday. Newsom released a summary of the proposal Thursday, although the exact cost of the plan is unclear. “It’s time to take the power out of the hands of greedy pharmaceutical companies,” the Governor said in Tweet Thursday. SAN DIEGO — San Diego is playing a pivotal role as a testing ground for the future border wall while the region prepares for President Trump’s visit Tuesday.WHY SAN DIEGO?The region, specifically Otay Mesa, was selected as a location for the eight prototypes because of site accessibility to construct and the ability to evaluate the wall as part of a larger, existing border infrastructure system, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Ralph DeSio.San Diego County’s value as a construction site was detailed in a presentation made by the Department of Homeland Security and obtained by NPR.CBP officers can compare the performance of the prototypes to underperforming existing materials in the same location, according to the document. SAN DIEGO — Medical workers from all over San Diego made their way into SDCCU Stadium Wednesday to pick up free Personal Protective Equipment for their small and medium sized practices.The workers got free hand sanitizer, N95 masks, surgical masks, gloves and gowns. "It's really hard to find in stores, online, it's all out, everywhere," said Juana Vasquez, medical assistant at La Mesa Family Medical Groups, who was picking up supplies.Volunteers from the San Diego County Medical Society, UCSD Medical School and the Mira Mesa High School football team handed drivers boxes of the gear in the stadium's parking lot. Medical organizations of 50 or fewer are eligible, and more than 500 of them registered for the event. Dr. Holly Yang, a hospice and palliative care specialist at Scripps and president of the San Diego County Medical Society, said larger hospital systems have been able to source the necessary PPE for its staff. For smaller operations, however, it has been a challenge."Everyone wants to take care of patients," Yang said. "We should not in this country have to be afraid for ourselves and our families. We should have the right equipment. It’s completely inexcusable that this far into the pandemic that that is not available and I’m so grateful that we are able to do this for our small practices."The items came available due to Gov.
