SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Ride hailing company Lyft announced a partnership with San Diego's Fashion Valley today to establish dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones at the mall. The partnership creates six official Lyft Zones that will make it easier for drivers to find riders in areas of the shopping center that are less congested, company officials said. Using the zones will also give riders access to special discounts, according to Lyft.``Transportation can be a challenge when it comes to shopping at busy malls,'' Lyft San Diego Market Manager Hao Meng said. ``The introduction of Lyft Zones at Fashion Valley Mall will offer shoppers a seamless door-to-door solution that enhances their overall ridesharing experience.''The six Lyft Zones around the mall are adjacent to Verizon Wireless, the Nordstrom eBar, So Sushi, JC Penney, the AMC Fashion Valley 18 theater and Forever 21. The company is encouraging the use of the new Lyft Zones by offering 20% off two rides to or from the shopping center through June 8 when riders use the code ``LyftFVLaunch.''``Ridesharing is in great demand, and we're excited to offer this convenience to locals and tourists who want to visit our popular shopping center,'' said Fashion Valley Marketing Director Arianne Cousin. 1267

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The FBI reached out to the public Wednesday for help in tracking down a man who faces federal charges for allegedly operating San Diego-based pornographic websites that recruited young women and at least one teenage girl to engage in commercial sex acts by force, fraud and coercion. The federal agency has posted a reward of up to ,000 for information leading to the arrest of 37-year-old Michael James Pratt, who co-owned and ran online sites called "Girls Do Porn" and "Girls Do Toys."An indictment unsealed last fall alleges that Pratt also produced pornographic content involving a 16-year-old girl.Pratt and his co-defendants allegedly videotaped sex acts under the guise of distributing the footage only to private clients, then disseminated the clips online without the victims' knowledge or consent. In January, a judge awarded about million to nearly two dozen women who sued the owners and operators of GirlsDoPorn.com. The plaintiffs -- identified in court documents as Jane Does 1 through 22 -- were awarded just under .5 million in compensatory damages and .3 million in punitive damages.Superior Court Judge Kevin Enright ruled that the defendants falsely claimed that the videos would never appear on the internet and were instead solely filmed for DVDs to be sold to customers living outside the United States. Those lies were often bolstered by "reference women" who posed as models and provided "new recruits with false comfort that the experience (was) safe and enjoyable, and that (previously recorded) videos have never appeared online or been discovered by anyone in the models' lives," according to the judge's 187-page ruling. Also charged and awaiting trial in the case are company co-owner Matthew Isaac Wolfe; porn actor Ruben Andre Garcia; administrative assistant Valorie Moser; and Amberlyn Dee Nored, who is accused of lying to victims about how the pornography they were performing in would be distributed.Anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of Pratt is asked to contact the FBI at 858-320-1800 or contact the agency online at tips.fbi.gov. 2121

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Poll watchers will be permitted to observe election activities at polling stations countywide on Nov. 3, though COVID-19 related restrictions will limit the number of people allowed inside polling places.Social distancing requirements mean only about one to two observers might be rotated in and out of the polling places at any given time this year, Assistant Registrar of Voters Cynthia Paes said Thursday. The number of polling places in San Diego County has been reduced from 1,548 in March to 235 larger polling places that will be open for four days and are each expected to be staffed by about 15 county employees, Paes said. The role of poll watchers has garnered increased attention as part of the national discussion on voter fraud and voter intimidation sparked most recently by President Donald Trump's call at Tuesday's presidential debate for his supporters to monitor polling places on Election Day.Trump, who has frequently raised the specter of voter fraud and publicly expressed doubts over the security of mail-in voting, urged supporters Tuesday to "go into the polls and watch very carefully because that's what has to happen."Tony Krvaric, chair of the San Diego County Republican Party, said recruiting poll watchers is a typical practice, intended to ensure votes are cast and note any irregularities in the voting process."We always recruit for poll watchers and have done so for as long as I can remember," Krvaric told City News Service."Poll watchers help make sure Republicans who haven't voted are contacted and reminded to do so and keep an eye out for any irregularities. This is nothing new. Democrats presumably do the same."Krvaric said any such instances of irregularities are reported to local officials or the Registrar of Voters."Any voter irregularities could dilute legitimate votes cast," he said. Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party, said he was confident in the San Diego County Registrar of Voters' ability to ensure a fair election process, saying there are "a number of processes (conducted) to verify a vote."Regarding Trump's allegations of voter fraud related to mail-in voting, Rodriguez-Kennedy called Trump's assertions "a falsehood," based largely in myth.Rodriguez-Kennedy told City News Service "mail ballot voting is safe and secure" and said its presence this election will increase overall voter turnout, something he said represented "a problem for this president."Of Trump's statements at the debate, he said his "intent is to sow discontent because he fears he is losing." 2592

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The city of San Diego announced a partnership today with Verizon to improve the city's wireless capacity and begin the process of introducing 5G cellular network technology.Verizon will make an investment of more than 0 million in local technology infrastructure, such as the installation of wireless equipment cells on city-owned light poles, to extend internet coverage and capability and increase public safety. The company will also offer 500 smartphones to the San Diego Police Department and 50 tablets to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department to make their communication infrastructure more efficient."Together, we're creating a platform of innovation with the latest smart city technology, supporting the city's focus on creating a digitally inclusive and connected city that benefits all residents and businesses for decades to come,'' said Ed Chan, Verizon's senior vice president of engineering.Eventually, Verizon plans to roll out 5G technology in San Diego, which the city says will enhance the region's economic might. In turn, the city plans to streamline the tech infrastructure installation process by creating a master permit to make it easier for telecommunications companies to install fiber optic internet.San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Councilman Chris Cate joined Chan to announce the partnership and tout the city's present and future technological capabilities."San Diego is a city of innovation with a long history of using groundbreaking technologies to make our city and the world a better place,'' Faulconer said. "Working together with Verizon, this agreement is going to provide resources that will further enhance cellular service for residents, keep communities safer and lower costs for taxpayers.'' 1766

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and City Councilman Chris Ward announced the start of construction Friday on dedicated infrastructure for cyclists and scooter riders in downtown San Diego.Faulconer and Ward's news conference marked the beginning of phase one of the Downtown Mobility Plan, roughly two and a half years after the City Council unanimously approved it. Once complete, the plan calls for the addition of about nine miles of cycle track through downtown -- bike lanes with a barrier to protect cyclists from vehicle traffic."As we encourage people to get out of their cars more, we need to build transportation networks that provide safe paths of travel for everyone," Faulconer said. "Connecting the popular destinations in downtown to surrounding neighborhoods is an important step in that direction and will give San Diegans more opportunities to embrace the surge in mobility options over the past year."The council approved the plan in June 2016. Faulconer originally suggested that the entire plan could be finished by June 2019, but delays and higher-than-expected costs pushed the project back. In March 2018, city officials told the city's Bicycle Advisory Committee that project costs had jumped from roughly million to million.Due to the setbacks, city officials now hope to complete the first phase at some point in 2020. The first phase will add cycle track on Beech Street from Pacific Highway to Sixth Avenue, Sixth Avenue from Beech Street to Harbor Drive and J Street from First Avenue to 17th Street."The Downtown Mobility Plan is a vital step forward I providing safe infrastructure for all San Diegans and to meet our mobility goals," Ward said. "San Diegans are ready for new and innovative mobility options as they move around our city, and this investment will improve the quality of life for those living and working downtown while moving San Diego closer to achieving our Climate Action Plan benchmarks."City officials expect to complete all three phases of the plan by the end of 2021. The network of track will eventually stretch from Balboa Park to the San Diego Convention Center, according to the city."On the bike front, we're overjoyed change is coming after many years of advocacy," said San Diego Bike Coalition Executive Director Alex Hanshaw. "Prioritizing people who choose to bike and walk is a historic step in the right direction. The lanes also come in a crucial time as we're seeing more people opt for this choice in their commutes, especially as bikeshare and other shared mobility options become more accessible." 2604
