RICHMOND, Indiana — An emergency call credited with foiling the shooting at a Richmond middle school on Thursday was made by the teenage suspect's mother, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the investigation.The call was made at 8:11 a.m. local time by the mother, according to information obtained from Wayne County's Emergency Communications Division.Sources tell WRTV television station in Indianapolis the mother called after the teenage boy had taken another family member hostage and forced them to drive to Dennis Intermediate School, just a little more than a mile from their home.Once the boy was at the school, he entered the building through a side door and eventually exchanged gunfire with responding officers, before turning the gun on himself, according to the sources.WRTV did request a recording of the call made to Wayne County's Emergency Communications Division, but the call is not being released due to the investigation.The advance call gave the school valuable minutes to lock down the middle school and allow police to quickly respond to the school, sources said. 1119

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Police are investigating after someone spray-painted "White Lives Matter" across a statue of black tennis legend Arthur Ashe statue along Monument Avenue in Richmond.Ashe, a Richmond-born tennis star and humanitarian, was the first black man to win U.S Open and Wimbledon titles.Wednesday's incident at the Ashe statue comes after weeks protests against police brutality both in Richmond and around the country.Statues along Monument Avenue honoring Confederate leaders like Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Jefferson Davis have either been spray-painted or toppled during the protest.Concrete barriers were installed around the Lee statue on Wednesday morning.The Virginia Department of General Services said it was erecting the barriers to protect the safety of demonstrators and the structure.The action came shortly after protesters toppled the Howitzers Monument located near Virginia Commonwealth University's Monroe Park campus on Tuesday.It was the third Confederate statue, and the fourth monument, to be torn down by demonstrators in Virginia following the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed a knee into his neck.Earlier this month, Virginia Gov. Retailers pulled some name brand dog food from store shelves after a euthanasia drug was found in several products."I was a little surprised, but at the same time you hear all sorts of stuff about what is and what isn't in dog food," said Sam Porach, pet owner.The FDA started an investigation after a TV station tested several cans of Gravy Train dog food and found 60 percent contained pentobarbital, a drug used to euthanize animals, found in some products."It's a tranquilizing drug that is sometimes used by veterinarians in animal shelters to reduce anxiety in animals and ultimately put them to sleep," said Jackie Bowen, the executive director of Clean Label Project.The Clean Label Project is a non-profit aimed at educating people about toxins in products, including pet food."This industry needs to do a lot more testing and be a lot more critical of the ingredients used in its products," said Bowen.The J.M. Smucker Co. owns the brands in question including Gravy Train, Kibble 'N Bits, Skippy and Ol' Roy.  The company is investigating how pentobarbital got into the supply chain."One possible way is through contaminated ingredients," Bowen said.Between recalls and reading labels, pet owners are left trying to navigate what's really safe."Try to go all natural type yah know baked treats and stuff," pet owner Ryan Searle said."I feel like there's been a pretty big movement lately on knowing what's in your dogs' food and having higher quality foods," Porach said.Smucker's said the low level of the drug found in the food does not pose a threat to pets, but admit it's not acceptable. RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and First Lady Pamela Northam have tested positive for COVID-19.On Wednesday they were notified that a member of the Governor’s official residence staff, who works closely within the couple’s living quarters had developed symptoms and had tested positive for COVID-19.The Governor and First Lady received PCR nasal swab tests Thursday afternoon and both tested positive for COVID-19, the governor’s office said.They added that Governor Northam is experiencing no symptoms and First Lady Pamela Northam is experiencing mild symptoms.The release said the Governor and First Lady will isolate for the next 10 days and evaluate their symptoms.The Governor will fulfill his duties from the Executive Mansion.“As I’ve been reminding Virginians throughout this crisis, COVID-19 is very real and very contagious,” said Governor Northam. “The safety and health of our staff and close contacts is of utmost importance to Pam and me, and we are working closely with the Department of Health to ensure that everyone is well taken care of.
