We're in some strange times right now and it may be hard to tell if it's appropriate to ask for a raise at work. Career experts say it's all about reading the room.“If your company has decided to freeze bonuses and they've laid off or furloughed people, you should still have a conversation with your boss about where that means your compensation will currently be, but you may not go into a nitty gritty negotiation conversation,” said Vicki Salemi, a career expert at Monster.com.If your company is doing well, has been able to keep employees, and has offered different work from home options, then it's fair game to begin negotiating with your manager.Make sure you walk into the conversation informed, though. Do your research on what someone with your experience and your location should make. And most importantly, don't start this conversation over email. Simply ask your manager if they have 15 minutes for a video chat and talk to them face to face.In the case where maybe a raise isn't possible right now, be open to negotiating about perks instead.“In addition to compensation, you can ask for additional personal time and perhaps you can also ask for extended working from home arrangements, after the pandemic or different arrangements, where you can have different things reimbursed to you that they previously didn't approve,” said Salemi. If both a raise and perks are denied, see if there's a chance those could happen later. If not, experts say it could be time to start looking for a job outside the company that will pay you your worth. 1562

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Michelle Obama is going after President Donald Trump in a scathing new video that accuses him of “willful mismanagement” of the coronavirus crisis and of racism. She calls on Black and all young voters not to “waste” their votes. In the video, released Tuesday by Joe Biden’s campaign, Mrs. Obama notes that more Americans have died from COVID-19 than died in the Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam and Korean wars combined. She charges that with respect to the virus, “our commander in chief, sadly, has been missing in action.”The former first lady accuses Trump of being “racist” when he and other Republicans are “lying about how minorities will destroy the suburbs,” which she says is meant to “distract from his breathtaking failures.”She also calls on undecided voters “to think about all those folks like me and my ancestors” and have some empathy for what it’s like “to walk around your own country scared that someone’s unjustified fear of you could put you in harm’s way.”And to Black and brown voters, and all young voters, who are considering sitting out the election, Mrs. Obama urges them to make a plan to vote, because “we don’t have the luxury to assume that things are going to turn out okay.”You can watch the video below: 1262

We are now in the midst of Black Friday week (not day), during a topsy turvy pandemic year, when everything is upside down.So should you shop Wednesday night, Thanksgiving or Friday, the traditional big shopping day in malls? It all depends what you are looking for and where you prefer to shop. The big sale day will look very different this year, with almost all major retailers closed Thanksgiving night. No more day-long lines to grab a 65-inch TV at half price. But that makes timing Black Friday tough. So, we scanned the ads to find some of the key times for deals. All week long dealsBest Buy, Target, Amazon and Kohl's started their biggest sales last Sunday morning, but say they will add new deals on Thanksgiving Day, online. So, you should browse their ads and sites early and often.Wednesday night dealsAt Walmart, the key time to start shopping is Wednesday at 7 p.m., the night before Thanksgiving, this year. That's when Walmart's hottest deals go online, such 70-inch TVs for below 0.Note that its electronics deals are online only this year, not in-store.Thanksgiving Day dealsAt Kohl's, they will launch a virtual Black Friday sale at 11 p.m. Wednesday, which will run all day Thursday. While Kohl's may not always have lowest price, its bonus Kohl's Cash often makes their deal better than anyone else's on similar items.Best Buy started its sale last Sunday, but promises more items popping up Thursday.Friday dealsBlack Friday traditionalists will still want to shop Friday, either in store or online. If you want kitchen gadgets, like blenders, air fryers, and the new Instant pot Duo, Thursday and Friday will bring the biggest sales.Plus on Friday, you will be able to shop in store at Macy's, JC Penney, Target, Kohl's and more for home goods (though note that stores will be limiting crowds, so you may have to wait in the parking lot).Buy this the moment you find itBut from the doesn't that stink file, one item you should buy the instant you find it, never mind that it's not on sale. We're talking Microsoft's new XBox Series S, and Sony's new PlayStation 5, which have sold out instantly. The PS5 is now selling for as much as ,600 on eBay.The XBox is going for 0 to well over ,000. Doesn't that stink? If you see one at the list price of 9 at a store website, grab it.Walmart promises to put them online in limited batches starting Wednesday at 7 p.m., while Gamestop promises a few in each store early Friday morning. You can wait for clothing and toysFinally, if you are shopping for clothing or toys, don't worry. WASHINGTON, D.C. (KGTV) -- President Donald Trump Tuesday night delivered a prime-time address to the nation on border security. All major networks, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox News decided to carry the address. The battle over border security and a border wall has led to a partial government shutdown that has, as of Tuesday, lasted 18 days. In comparison, the longest government shutdown was under former President Bill Clinton and lasted 21 days. President Donald Trump said during the address that there is a "growing humanitarian and security crisis" at the U.S.-Mexico border, though crossings have fallen in recent years.RELATED: What the border looks like now, as President Trump asks for wall fundingThe President added that all Americans are hurt by uncontrolled illegal immigration. He says it strains public resources and drives down jobs and wages. The President says among those hit hardest by illegal immigration are African-Americans and Hispanics. The President is trying to convince Americans that the flow of immigrants into the U.S. illegally at the southern border is a crisis. He asserts that the government remains shut down because Democrats won't fund border security.RELATED: San Diego lawmakers respond to Trump's border wall commentsFollowing his address, Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer stood in a long hallway behind a podium, reinforcing their talking points about misinformation spread by the President. Both Pelosi and Schumer didn't seem to be swayed on whether or not they'd compromise and reopen the government, ensuring that the standoff between Trump and Democrats continues. 1638

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Monday chose to delay New Zealand’s national elections by four weeks as the country deals with a new coronavirus outbreak in its largest city, Auckland. The election had been scheduled for Sept. 19 but will now be held on Oct. 17. Under New Zealand law, Ardern had the option of delaying the election for up to about two months. Opposition parties had been requesting a delay after the virus outbreak in Auckland last week prompted the government to put the city into a two-week lockdown and halted election campaigning. Ardern said she wouldn’t consider delaying the election again, no matter what was happening with any virus outbreaks. Opinion polling indicates Ardern’s liberal Labour Party is favored to win a second term in office. 804
