Mayors across the country are asking their residents to take part of a friendly competition to see which cities can conserve the most water during the month of April.  Residents who participate in the Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation from April 1 to April 30 have the opportunity of winning ,000 toward their utility payments for a year. They can also win daily prizes, such as water-saving fixtures, cash and an Apple iPad Mini 4.In addition to residents winning prizes, one charity will receive a 2018 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid to help it serve the community."Last year, the challenge awarded more than ,000 in prizes to nearly 300 residents in U.S. cities," according to the challenge's website.Unsure how you can participate? MIAMI (AP) — A 2-year-old girl is recovering after falling from a fourth-floor window of a Miami apartment. Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll told WPLG that a palm tree under the window helped slow the speed of the child's fall early Monday. She landed in some bushes. She was being cuddled by her uncle and was crying when rescue crews arrived at the scene. The girl was then taken to a hospital for treatment. Miami Police Cmdr. Freddie Cruz told the TV station that detectives were trying to determine what led to the fall and whether the girl's parents bear any responsibility.No additional details were immediately available. 645

Lucy McBath never imagined she'd run for Congress. LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A Kentucky judge ruled Tuesday that a grand juror in the Breonna Taylor case is allowed to speak publicly. The grand juror alleges the jury was not given a chance to weigh charges directly connected to Taylor's death against the Louisville police officers who shot her.Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Annie O'Connell released a statement in her ruling, saying the order is not intended to coerce, compel or even encourage any grand juror to come forward. Millions of Americans have fallen into poverty waiting for Congress to pass another stimulus package.“It seems like every time we get really, really close, then nothing transpires,” said Elizabeth Pancotti, a policy advisor at Employ America. “There is a sense of urgency within the halls of Congress, but that same urgency was there in July when the 0 top off expired.Pancotti added that in addition to new help from Congress, millions of people may be unaware of programs already in place to help. In fact, those who have lost their job and can’t afford to pay rent should consider three programs many people don’t know about, especially if they have never needed this kind of help before.“The first one is SNAP, or more commonly known as food stamps. That could provide 0 to 0 per week,” explained Pancotti. “The second program is TANF, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.”It is important to note that SNAP benefits can only be used for food. Additionally, SNAP benefit amounts can vary from state to state and can vary by family size. On average, an individual receives a maximum benefit of around 0 per month, while a family of four can usually receive around 0 per month. However, a family of six can receive around 0 a month and, in some states, every additional family member could add around 0 in benefits a month.TANF is only for families, adults with children, and there is usually a work requirement.
