A Michigan high school marching band had no football team to play for, but not too far away, a football team needed a band. Luckily, they found each other and completed the perfect pair.The match was made last Friday night when the Glen Lake Lakers football team heard that their neighboring Forest Area Marching Band had no one to play for after their football team's season was canceled -- Forest Area suspended its season due to low player participation.So, the Lakers invited the band to come play at theirs."No Friday night football game under those lights is complete without your sideline cheer team and a marching band," Mark Mattson, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Glen Lake, told CNN.Thrilled at the opportunity to perform for a crowd, the band quickly learned the Lakers' fight song. Meanwhile, an hour away, Glen Lake was adding extra seating and erecting tents to ward off the impending rain."They were just over the moon excited to go be able to play at a different location," Forest Area Principal Kelly Holeman told CNN. "It was something new and fun."The night ended in a victory for Glen Lake, played out against the backdrop of the music they've been lacking all season long.The Glen Lake athletic director said that the band undoubtedly made an impact on the atmosphere of the night."It didn't take long for the two schools to connect and become one in supporting each others' cause," Mattson said. Although the fall officially arrived earlier this week, summer-like weather is still occurring throughout much of the United States. According to data released recently by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a warm-weather pattern is expected to continue through the end of the year. The data shows that the continental United States and Alaska will likely have above-average temperatures for the rest of 2019. Tthe High Plains and the South have a good chance for warmer-than-average temperatures from October through December, but the Southwest, Alaska and New England have a more significant chance for above-average temperatures to end the year.A warm end to 2019 would follow a hotter-than-average summer for the United States. All 50 states had at or above average temperatures from June through August. Anthony Artusa, a NOAA meteorologist, said that the forecast was based off model data, sea-surface temperatures, and long-term trends. The sea-surface temperatures currently along both the West Coast and East Coast are significantly warmer than normal, according to NOAA data.Greg Johnson, an oceanographer for NOAA said the water off both coasts has absorbed a lot of heat this summer. "The oceans are substantially warmer than they have been in the past… they have absorbed a massive amount of heat," Johnson said.Artusa said that while temperatures from October through December will likely be warm throughout most of the U.S., some areas could still have some cooler weather within the period."This is a 90-day average, so it doesn't mean that every day within the period will be above normal," Artusa said. There will be some days that will be undoubtedly below normal, and some at normal. But when you look at the 90-day period as a whole, we think it will be dominated by above-normal temperatures." 1853

A wildfire inside the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff, Arizona, grew to 1,800 acres in size prompting authorities to order mandatory evacuations in the surrounding area Monday.The Museum Fire was first reported on Sunday and has since stretched across the forest, the US Forest Service website shows.Communities near the fire, about 5 miles north of Flagstaff, were given pre-evacuation notices Monday after the US Forest Service conducted aerial assessments of the fire, according to an emergency alert from Coconino County.Those communities include Mt. Elden Lookout Estates, Hutcheson Acres, McCann Estates, Little Elden Springs, Black Bill Park as well as Wupatki Trails and Pine Mountain Estates, the alert said.Officials urged residents to get their emergency items in order and stay aware of the latest information should the need for mandatory evacuations arise.An area off of Mount Elden Lookout Road was later ordered to evacuate, although the number of residents under a mandatory evacuation was not immediately available.A state of emergency was declared by both the City of Flagstaff and the Coconino County due to the Museum Fire Monday night. The declaration allows the city and county to tap into emergency funding and request assistance from the state.Following the declaration, a new incident management team, Type 1 Southwest Area Incident Management Team 2, took over operations Monday night as crews continued to battle the blaze. 1471
