A video of a woman who was allegedly resisting arrest while being beaten by police officers on a New Jersey beach on Saturday has been shared 1,000s of times since being published. Emily Weinman, a resident of Philadelphia, claimed that officers questioned her about underage drinking while she was on a beach in Wildwood, New Jersey. Weinman claimed that she was given an alcohol breath test, which came back negative. Weinman added in a Facebook post that the officers from the Wildwood, New Jersey Police were going to let her go, but when she asked officers why they were enforcing underage drinking rather than more serious crimes, that is when the officers had a change of heart. Weinman said that officers asked for her to identify herself, which she refused to do. Weinman claims an officer said, "I was gonna let you go but now I'll write you up." 894
A new beer can with the message "poll workers needed" will be sold in four Kentucky breweries to recruit poll workers for the upcoming general election. After a shortage of poll workers in Kentucky's June primary meant limited polling locations, the partnership between Secretary of State Michael Adams and the Kentucky Guild of Brewers is intended to reach people who may have never considered working election day."Everybody needs to be out there voting every single year, but especially this year," said Bailey Johnson, marketing and sustainability manager for Pivot Brewing in Lexington. "We think that if we can help in any way, shape, or form we're going to do it."Pivot will sell its vintage cider in the cans, that features a link to govoteky.com and a QR code that when scanned on a smartphone will take the user directly to govoteky.com, where they can sign up to be a poll worker and request an absentee ballot. The campaign is intended to reach a younger generation, as poll workers tend to be older but are particularly at risk from the coronavirus."It's really just trying to get people to step up because it's not something you think about doing every year," she said.Three other Kentucky breweries are participating in the campaign:Monnik Beer Co. A United States Customs and Border Protection officer is accused of falsely claiming to be a US citizen when he applied for the job, the Department of Justice said. According to DOJ officials, Marco Antonio De La Garza Jr., 37, of Hereford, Ariz. was charged with three counts of passport fraud and false statements on his federal law enforcement background application. The DOJ is claiming that De La Garza knowingly used a fraudulently obtained Texas birth certificate to apply for a United States passport. De La Garza is also accused of using the same birth certificate to claim US citizenship during his background check. It is unknown how US officials were unable to figure out that De La Garza's paperwork was fraudulent. The charges stemmed from an investigation conducted by the Department of State-Diplomatic Security Service and the Department of Homeland Security-Office of Inspector General. The DOJ claims that De La Garza was actually born in Mexico. The Associated Press confirmed that he was hired by border patrol in 2012. 1116
